More Nice Comments From Justin

Wed November 29th 2006 @ 11:06PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

In the second part of a great interview with Justin Hartley over at Media Village, Justin is asked what it's like to work with Tom on Smallville. Here's what Justin had to say:

I enjoy working with him. Tom's real cerebral. You wouldn't guess that. I'm not saying he comes across as an idiot. He knows his character inside and out. He's such a thoughtful person. He's been doing it for six years, so it's got to be difficult, but he doesn't relent. He's a really interesting guy to work with and a lot of fun because he's always present. He's not one of those guys who's gone when the camera isn't on him. He's right there, even when he doesn't need to be there. He might not even have any lines, but he's there doing his thing. I don't know where he got that, who taught him to do that. It's appreciated, because not a lot of people do that. We get along pretty well. We make each other laugh. We have good on screen chemistry, I hope.

Despite being one of those who hasn't appreciated the spotlight being somewhat taken off Clark this season (although in most episodes it has been more of a storyline thing than an actual lack of screen time for Tom), I can't disagree that Justin and Tom do work really well together as the Green Arrow and Clark.

Now, if they could just have the Green Arrow as a guest star in Clark's story, rather than vice versa, that would be much appreciated by this viewer.

History of Superman

Mon November 27th 2006 @ 11:31PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

To help promote Warner's 14-disc Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, which is released tomorrow, USA Today is featuring comments about many of the past (and present) Supermen by Richard Donner, the director of Superman and much of Superman II, and Brandon Routh, who starred in Superman Returns.

While Richard Donner's comments related to Smallville rather than to Tom's portrayal, Brandon had this to say:

Tom does a nice job. He's a whole new side of the character. He's kind of a normal kid and he's got these powers and he's learning about them. He's Clark on the farm, who we've never seen too much before.

The Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition includes Superman: The Movie Four-Disc Collector's Edition, Superman II Two-Disc Special Edition, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, Superman III Deluxe Edition, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace Deluxe Edition, Superman Returns Two-Disc Special Edition, and a number of other extras.

If you're a huge fan of Superman, the collection will likely be a must-have. If you're just a fan of Smallville, and more specifically Tom Welling, the short segment on Look, Up in the Sky!: The Amazing Story of Superman probably won't be worth the high price tag, especially as you can buy the documentary separately.

Tom Outguns Green Arrow

Fri November 24th 2006 @ 7:23AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

In a new interview with Smallville's Green Arrow, Justin Hartley, at the Northwest Indiana Times, Justin speaks about something I've noticed myself - that when he and Tom are together in a scene, they're always positioned in such a way that it's very difficult to determine who is the bigger of the two. However, Justin doesn't seem to mind admitting that Tom, to quote the article, "outguns him on every level":

"Tom's got me by about an inch (and) outweighs me by about 35 pounds. The way they shoot it, they try not to make me look too small next to him, which is good."

If only the article had noted how much Justin weighs. Still, the article did mention that Justin is 6'3", so this is another source stating that Tom is at least 6'4". Maybe they're exaggerating. I selflessly volunteer to go to Vancouver, armed with a tape measure, and find out.

Some More 'Rage' Stills

Wed November 22nd 2006 @ 12:58AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Despite the release schedule being somewhat slow, it's always nice to get some new Smallville episode stills. On this occasion, Warner Bros. has released three more stills featuring Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, and Justin Hartley, from 'Rage', which aired on November 9th.

There are no bare legs in these images, but the first of the three new shots, which features Tom all by himself, more than makes up for that by being (in my opinion, at least) a great photo.

Screen Captures From 'Static'

Fri November 17th 2006 @ 7:34PM - James - Tom Welling - 6 Comments

Huh. I'm really not entirely sure what to say about last night's episode of Smallville, 'Static', from which I've just posted a very disappointing number (only 270) of screen captures.

I now understand what Maria was getting at in her comment in response to my last news post. Tom was only in last night's episode for about ten minutes, if that, and the ballyhooed showdown between Clark and Batista's character was a distinctly damp squib. I know that Tom was busy preparing for 'Hydro' during the filming of this episode, and there's no doubt that Tom deserves a less hectic schedule. Still, there's no excuse for only giving your show's star around half a dozen short scenes.

This was probably my least favourite episode of the season so far, for numerous reasons. Forgetting the distinct lack of Tom in the episode, I just found it all very ... odd, I suppose is the word. Very disappointing.

Additional 'Fallout' Stills

Fri November 17th 2006 @ 3:57PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Warner Bros. has just released four additional stills featuring Tom Welling from 'Fallout', the November 2nd episode of Smallville.

Also featured in the stills is guest star Pascale Hutton, as Raya - and not-so-much-featured, but nonetheless visible, are the elusive legs of Mr. Welling in one of the behind-the-scenes stills. Unfortunately that particular still shows little more than the back of Tom's head, but it's a minor flaw.

'Static' Airs Tonight

Thu November 16th 2006 @ 5:39PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Smallville's final episode until December 7th, 'Static', airs tonight on the CW Network. This episode has had quite a lot of publicity thanks to its guest star, the WWE's Batista, including a video clip from WWE.com and a handful of official stills.

If you'd like to discuss the episode once it's over – or even before it's started – you can do so over on the forum or down in the comments.

I'm working really hard on a whole new TomWelling.org (okay, so some of it won't change much) at the moment, but since my usual estimates of how long something will take are at best inaccurate, there's no ETA. Suffice to say that it's going well so far. Unfortunately, due to how much work there is to do, I'm not going to be able to search for any news for a while, so I'm calling on everyone to help me out! If you see something that you think I should know about, please contact me.

'Rage' Screen Captures & 'Static' Clips

Sat November 11th 2006 @ 11:01AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Here, just as promised, are screen captures from last Thursday's new Smallville episode, 'Rage'. This was yet another good episode, albeit yet another not especially nice one. Still, at least the final scenes in the Kent house brightened things up a bit. Clark's blue shirt would definitely be on my "approved things" list, assuming I had one. Now that's a thought ...

In addition, clips from next week's episode, 'Static', have been posted up at The CW Video Hub (in the "Director's Cut" section) and WWE.com. And just in case you can't view them, or in case you want to save them even if you can view them, here are downloadable copies of the WWE and CW clips.

Personally I thought it was a lot of fun to see Tom beating up Batista in the WWE clip. Kinda. Except Batista was letting him, so perhaps it doesn't really count.

'Static' Trailer

Fri November 10th 2006 @ 3:27AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Thanks to Steve, here's the trailer for next Thursday's episode of Smallville, 'Static', which aired following tonight's episode, 'Rage'. If you've seen 'Rage' and would like to discuss it, you can do that over on the forum or down in the comments.

Hopefully I'll be able to post up screen captures from 'Rage' in the next day or two.

Stills From 'Rage' & 'Static'

Wed November 8th 2006 @ 11:20PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

I'm finally caught up on what appears to be all of the past Smallville Season 6 episode stills, and it was right on time, too! Stills have just been released for tomorrow's new episode, 'Rage', and next week's episode, 'Static', which guest stars the WWE Smackdown Superstar, Batista. A few weeks ago WWE.com featured an article about Batista's appearance, along with a few additional stills.

Over at TV Guide, last week's Ask Ausiello featured a spoiler for Tom's second directorial effort, 'Hydro', which is scheduled to air in January:

Lots of good buzz surrounding January's 'Hydro' episode, which is directed by Tom Welling and features, as y'all know, Tori Spelling as a water-based gossip columnist. In addition to being tons of fun, I hear the episode features a pretty major (and surprising) kiss between Clark and ...

Naughty Mr. Ausiello didn't actually say who was doin' the kissin', but he did use a certain number of asterisks to indicate who it would be - and this week he has actually named the lucky lady. Wait, should I have said that it's a lady? But that's not the only scoop from this week's edition:

There's a super-cool twist: She thinks she's kissing her boyfriend, [boyfriend's name here]. ... Thinking that [Clark] is really [her boyfriend], [she] plants one on him.

Poor Clark, that's a very unfortunate situation. There's a lot more than that, too, but I think this is the most I can safely post without going too far into spoiler territory.

Image Updates

Mon November 6th 2006 @ 9:51PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

I've still got a lot of things to work through and catch up with, but for now here are a few images of Tom from Smallville that I've missed recently. There are stills from 'Wither' and 'Reunion', along with screen captures from last week's new episode, 'Fallout'. I've been a little disappointed by the understandable lack of Tom (he'll no doubt be prepping for directing 'Hydro') in the past few episodes, but 'Fallout' was great.

Luckily it doesn't seem like I missed too much news (it would have probably been a fairly quiet news month even if I had been able to post everything!), but as ever there's a lot to do on the site. If I appear to go AWOL again, it's likely that I'll be working "behind the scenes". I really need to modify the news and gallery software so that other people can do full updates to the site when I'm not around!

'Arrow' & 'Reunion' Screen Caps

Thu November 2nd 2006 @ 5:13AM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

I'm finally (almost) back! I need a few more days to sort a few things out, but from early next week everything should be pretty much back to normal at TomWelling.org. In the meantime, here are screen caps from 'Arrow' and 'Reunion'.

Once again I want to say a huge thank you to Cindy for making sure the site wasn't completely dead over the past few weeks. It's great to be back - despite the slightly daunting inbox I'll be tackling over the weekend!
