First Promo Stills For Season Six

Thu August 31st 2006 @ 6:25AM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

Warner Bros/CBS has just released the first episode stills from the upcoming sixth season of Smallville, which begins on (erm, I've forgotten the date, so give me a minute while I go and find it ... okay, I'm back. What's that? How could I have forgotten? I'm still sick; that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!) September 28th on the CW Network. The stills, from the season premiere, 'Zod', feature Tom Welling as Clark with a few sekrit, slightly spoilery guest stars, and the not-so-spoilery Allison Mack as Chloe.

Why is Tom dressed like an old-school shepherd? And how amusing – in a slap yourself kind of way – is it that even Clark's robes have a plaid-like pattern stitched into them? This season could make me smile yet; though perhaps not for the reasons they would prefer.

Big thanks to Jana for the stills!

In anticipation of the release of Smallville: The Complete Fifth Season in the United States on September 12th, Warner Bros. has kindly provided a slew of new stills from the season to help promote the DVD.

I've just finished uploading one image from 'Fanatic', three images from 'Lockdown', three images from 'Reckoning', two images from 'Vengeance', five images from 'Mercy', four images from 'Oracle', and twenty-one images from 'Vessel'!

Now to some slightly newer promotional stills ...

Huge Fan Meets Tom On The Smallville Set

Sat August 26th 2006 @ 11:10PM - James - Tom Welling - 9 Comments

Last Wednesday, August 23rd, lucky Tom Welling fan Emma visited the set of Smallville with her parents, and was allowed onto the set to watch some of the filming on Smallville's sixth season episode, 'Arrow'. Emma has kindly shared a couple of images of her and Tom with me, and she has also written a very detailed account of her afternoon on the set, which you can read here.

Emma's story contains quite a few spoilers for 'Arrow', so please be cautious if you don't want to know what's probably going to happen in the episode - I say "probably" because there's always the possibility that what Emma saw may not make it into the episode's final cut.

I've been on a slow recovery from a nasty virus, and I was planning on taking this weekend off, but I couldn't resist posting about Emma's fantastic set visit and photographs! Thank you Emma!

Smallville Season 5 DVD

Fri August 25th 2006 @ 4:28AM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

With thanks to Warner Bros., here are some promotional goodies for Smallville: The Complete Fifth Season box set, released on region 2 DVD on August 28th, and region 1 DVD on September 12th. To your left is the blank key art for the DVD cover, featuring Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum, and below are a number of preview video clips featuring behind-the-scenes footage:

Enjoy! I'm planning on taking a long weekend of rest for the next few days, so hopefully nothing important will pop up in that time.

Images From Teen Choice Awards

Tue August 22nd 2006 @ 4:29PM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

I was on an enforced break yesterday, so here, a little later than I had hoped, are a few images of Tom and Kristen Bell presenting an award to Johnny Depp at Sunday's Teen Choice Awards. Big thanks to Jana for all of the photos!

And I was so tired on Sunday (actually the early hours of Monday morning for me) that I neglected to comment on what Tom looked like! I didn't even realise until Cel pointed it out, so without further ado - I thought Tom looked great. Sure, New Balance and a blazer wouldn't be my first choice, but they seem to work on Tom. He was dressed very similarly, and his hair was styled in much the same way, to how it was at Smallville's 100th Episode Party last November, and judging by this site's current banner, I obviously thought he looked good there, too.

Tom Is The CW Star Of The Week

Tue August 22nd 2006 @ 3:02PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

Over at The CW Source, WGN Chicago's CW Network blog, Tom has been named as The CW Star Of The Week:

Why we heart him: Those blue eyes! That hot bod! And he can act his socks off too. But can he convincingly complete Clark Kent's journey from boy to man this upcoming season? We shall see...

His eyes are not blue! I ... just ... okay, I do agree with everything else they said about him. I'll calm down now.

Tom Presents Teen Choice Award To Johnny Depp

Mon August 21st 2006 @ 3:11AM - James - Tom Welling - 8 Comments

In an unfortunately short segment towards the very end of tonight's Teen Choice Awards (if the show hasn't yet aired in your area, you can get away with watching the final 20-25 minutes), Tom Welling and Veronica Mars' Kristen Bell presented an award – which I assume to be the Choice Movie Actor award – to Johnny Depp. Tom wasn't shown during the red carpet pre-show, and was only on stage for around one minute. But at least it's something.

I hope to have a clip of Tom's segment up either in an hour or two, or later today when I've had some sleep. With luck there will also be a few pictures from the event later today, but for now this is all I have. Please keep checking back for updates!

Edit: With big thanks to Steve, here is a video and some screen captures of Tom presenting at the Teen Choice Awards. Big thanks also go out to Kitty and Serene who offered to cap the show for me, and to Pam who sent along a few screen caps. Now it's time for me to sleep ... in the daytime.

Reminder: Teen Choice Awards Tomorrow

Sat August 19th 2006 @ 8:05PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

As I posted back on August 3rd, Tom is scheduled to appear at the 2006 Teen Choice Awards, airing live tomorrow night, Sunday, August 20th, on Fox. The awards show will start at 8:00pm, with a red carpet pre-show featuring many of the attending stars airing at 7:30pm - check local listings just in case the times are slightly different in your area.

This will be Tom's third appearance at the Teen Choice Awards, assuming his schedule allows him to make it. I wonder if Tom has a superstition about not appearing during odd-numbered years: 2002, 2004, 2006 ...

If you can capture a video clip of Tom's segment for me, please get in touch - at this point I'm just hoping I'll be able stay awake to update the site! It's also probable that Teen Choice will be featured on some of the entertainment news shows (E! News Live, Entertainment Tonight, etc.), so it may be worth keeping an eye on those next week.

Circling Serita Reviews

Fri August 18th 2006 @ 2:14PM - James - Mark Welling - 2 Comments

I'm sorry I took so long to get around to posting these - summer viruses are cruel to me!

Here at long lost are two reviews of Mark's movie, Circling Serita, from Denise and Melinda, who both attended the premiere on August 10th. The general consensus seems to be that for a "no budget" movie, as it was described by Adam Fox, it's actually a very enjoyable film with a great premise.

Smallville Season 6 Preview

Fri August 18th 2006 @ 1:35PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

Last night the first preview trailer for Smallville's sixth season was aired on The CW Network, featuring Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, John Glover, Annette O'Toole, Erica Durance, Allison Mack, Kristin Kreuk, and guest stars Justin Hartley and Aaron Ashmore.

With thanks to Serene and Steve, who both sent in video captures, here is the clip - it contains lots of spoilers, so don't watch if you don't want to know!

Appreciate Smallville, Or Else

Sun August 13th 2006 @ 11:11AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I hope the title isn't too threatening, I didn't really mean it. In response to Julia Waterhous' article in the Seattle Times on July 19th, which I wrote about right here, reader Raj Manoharan has written a letter about why Tom Welling's portrayal of Clark Kent could not only deck Brandon Routh's version, but also Christian Bale's Batman. Head over to read the letter. Here's some of what Raj had to say:

I've been attempting to convince a lot of my other friends that the Clark Kent is none other than Tom Welling's portrayal in Smallville. We have been having hypothetical debates about whether the Batman portrayed by Christian Bale in Batman Begins would rival Tom Welling/Superman and Brandon Routh/Superman. The hefty majority agree that Bale's personality gives Batman an edge over Routh's Superman. However, versus Welling's Superman ... the fight would be quite even.

And yet, I wouldn't like to see Christian (I almost typed Christina. Oops!) and Tom battling it out. I would hate to think of the damage they could do to one another.

I've been feeling a little under the weather for a few days, so there are a couple of things I haven't yet got around to doing. One of those things is posting some reviews of Mark's movie, Circling Serita, which premiered last Thursday. Mark wasn't at the premiere, unfortunately, but it sounds like it was a great night for everyone who could make it. If you saw the movie and haven't yet sent in a review, but would like to, please pass it along to me. And if you have already sent your review in, thank you! I'll get them all posted in a day or two when I'm a little more compos mentis.

Double-Take - Tom's How Tall?

Thu August 10th 2006 @ 8:36AM - James - Tom Welling - 7 Comments

Imagine the lovably dopey yours truly gasping like a guppy and mumbling something along the lines of "who in the how in the where in the whuh huh?"

That's exactly what I'm doing after reading a new article about Smallville's sixth season guest star Aaron Ashmore over at TV Guide. It's mostly the same information that has been in every other article about Aaron's casting on the show, including a comment about Tom and Allison being "super friendly". But where it gets very interesting is in the final paragraph:

[Aaron's character] will look up to Clark in at least one way from Day 1, however. "When Tom and I did a scene together he was very welcoming," the 6-foot-tall Ashmore says of his 6-foot-5 cast mate. "He's really tall! I was like, 'Holy smokes!'"

Six-foot what now? Five? I know Tom's tall, but I've never seen anyone push it quite that high before. Mr. Welling, kindly step over here - and bring a tape measure with you.

Smooth vs. Scruffy - Decisions, Decisions

Wed August 9th 2006 @ 12:44AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

In a new photo poll at People.com, they're asking the question, Smooth or Scruffy: What's Hotter? Tom's one of the lucky guys to be given the comparison treatment:

Smallville's most famous resident is usually clean-shaven to play an all-American superhero. But when the show's on hiatus, the former Abercrombie & Fitch model is a "T-shirt and jeans" kind of guy, who almost goes unrecognized with a full face of whiskers.

Why do I have to choose? Besides that, something about this poll grates a little - literally. He's not actually "smooth" in either of the photos ... I have it on good authority that sandpaper stubble is the best grater in the world.

Big thanks to Rene for passing along the link. I was sent this (checks date on e-mail) seven hours ago so I apologise for being late! I'm still working on that big project I mentioned a few weeks back. It's coming along very nicely for anyone who may have wondered.

Erica Durance Talks Lois & Clark

Mon August 7th 2006 @ 1:48PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

In a new article from the Arizona Republic (it's really just borrowed quotes from an article at TVGuide.com, which I obviously missed), Erica Durance talks about the possibility of her Lois and Tom Welling's Clark finally getting together on Smallville:

"I think [the powers that be] would have to figure out how many years the show is going to go. Then they can map out how far they can bring Lois [and Clark's relationship] along. Watching characters dance around each other and bait each other and not quite fall into sentimental love is interesting for me to see. What is also interesting for me to see is these two fighting with each other and finding out why they love each other."

Awww. So sweet. You never bicker with someone in the way these two do unless you like each other at least a little bit. Or maybe they really do detest one another with their entire heart and soul. At least for now. Eh, as long as Tom and Erica continue to bring the funny, I'll be happy enough.

Tom To Appear At 2006 Teen Choice Awards

Thu August 3rd 2006 @ 9:40PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

According to a press release from Fox at the Futon Critic, Tom is currently scheduled to appear at the 2006 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, August 20th. The awards show will air live on Fox at 8:00pm, with the red carpet pre-show airing at 7:30pm.

Celebrities scheduled to appear at Teen Choice 2006 include TV personality Paula Abdul (American Idol); actors Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), Wentworth Miller (Prison Break), Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Tom Welling (Smallville); actresses Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four), Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), Rachel Bilson (The O.C.), Sophia Bush (One Tree Hill), Jaime Pressly (My Name is Earl) and Kristin Cavallari (Laguna Beach); teen queen Hilary Duff (The Perfect Man); the cast of High School Musical; rapper Snoop Dogg; singer Nick Lachey; and actor Wilmer Valderrama (That '70s Show).

I wonder if Tom will wear a baseball cap again. And maybe he'll actually win this time, too! If all else fails, maybe we'll be lucky and get to see Superman on stage with Superman.

Smallville Spoilers At TV Guide

Thu August 3rd 2006 @ 4:17PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

In today's edition of the TV Guide Insider, there is a short interview with Al Gough about Smallville's upcoming sixth season on the CW Network. It looks to be taken from the same article that was published in the July 24th - July 30th issue of TV Guide, and talks primarily about the season's guest stars, but there are also a few words about Tom Welling's Clark Kent:

"Ultimately, Clark will see the value of what [one of the guest stars, whose name I won't mention] is trying to do. But as he's gotten older, Clark has become more cautious. He will always be there to help out, but he doesn't want to be part of a formalized organization."

So it's what, eight weeks to the day until the sixth season premieres on September 28th? I can't wait!
