Photos From 'Cyborg', 'Hypnotic', And 'Fragile'

Wed July 26th 2006 @ 5:24PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

Even though the episodes aired quite a few months ago, Warner Bros. has just released a handful of new images from Smallville's fifth season. There are two new images in the 'Cyborg' gallery, six new images in the 'Hypnotic' gallery, and, at long last, three official behind the scenes images of Tom playing director on the set of 'Fragile'.

The images feature Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Allison Mack, and guest star Lee Thompson Young.

Long-Haired Lovely? Apparently So

Wed July 26th 2006 @ 12:41PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

It's no secret that I have a compulsion to say something whenever I see things that make me do even the slightest double-take. What I hadn't completely grasped is that it seems to be a very British trait, as my brethren at Sky Showbiz have the same problem.

Accompanying an article about Rupert Friend's beautiful plaited hair, is a picture gallery of 50 male "Long-Haired Lovelies", one of whom is Tom Welling, whose appearance at the CW Upfronts made it onto the list at #14:

Yum. That's all we have to say about you, Smallville. The facial rug is a welcome addition.

It seems that Sky's writers also approve of Tom's lumberjack look; now, a more pressing question is what did they think of his shoes and the green and yellow wallpaper?

Big thanks to C for passing along the link.

Advance Order Tickets For Circling Serita

Sat July 22nd 2006 @ 2:25PM - James - Mark Welling - 2 Comments

As mentioned previously, Mark's second movie, Circling Serita, will be premiering at the Visulite Theatre in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Thursday, August 10th. The theatre has now opened up advance bookings for the showing, which will begin at 8:00pm and is open to anyone aged 18 years or over.

Unfortunately I'm a little too far away to go to the premiere myself (silly oceans getting in the way), but if you are able to get there, and assuming that the tickets haven't already sold out, Circling Serita should be well worth seeing. And who knows, you may even be lucky enough to meet some of the cast and crew if they're planning on attending ...

Smallville Yearbook 2006

Thu July 20th 2006 @ 12:28PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The Smallville Yearbook 2006 (aka Smallville Magazine issue #15 and #11 in the US and UK respectively) has recently gone on sale, and the magazine features new interviews with the entire cast of Smallville, including the show's star, Tom Welling. The magazine's 100 pages are packed full of information, including an A-Z of Smallville, a new original Smallville story, a look back at a year in the life of Smallville, and a Smallville quiz to test how well you know the show.

Thanks to Ross at Titan Magazines, here are a few excerpts from Tom's interview in the magazine:

"Today on the Kent farm, Clark isn't in a life-and-death battle with some kryptonite-charged super-villain but, nonetheless, he is still about to be delivered a devastating blow by one of his closest friends. Wearing his trademark red T-shirt, blue jeans, and jacket, a pensive Clark is slowly dismantling his telescope in the barn loft, a prop that has been around since day one. Yet something isn't quite working with the scene. A few words with director Terrence O'Hara, and lead actor Tom Welling is taking the unnecessary jacket off with a playful striptease. A quick rewind later and Lana Lang enters the frame. After some light conversation, she drops the bombshell about her budding romance with Lex. It is the first time the relationship has been publicly acknowledged and, although an obviously hurt Clark maintains he is only concerned about her welfare, Lana states she, 'doesn't owe Clark anything.' As she descends the wooden staircase leaving a stunned Clark standing there, a crewmember notes, 'He’s not the same boy who was on the cross in the first season.'

"Clark's victory against the various Kryptonians this season wasn't without a price. To teach him a lesson, Jor-El temporarily stripped his son of all of his extraordinary abilities. Consequently, in Mortal, Clark embraced being normal and finally seemed to be able to enjoy an angst-free love with Lana. 'Well, there is one thing he really learned about being human,' laughs Tom about Clark losing his virginity to Lana. 'He learned a little bit more about what it is like to be human, physically. Emotionally, he's pretty close to trying to understand that. It added more weight to his abilities once he got them back, and it made him realize his responsibilities for what he has.'

"The Clark/Lex dynamic isn’t the only conflicted and compelling affiliation in Smallville. Ever since Lois plowed into a cornfield and saw Clark in his birthday suit, the duo has amusingly annoyed each other, often butting heads and trading sarcastic remarks. Indeed, despite their close proximity and those longing glances, no sparks have ignited, and if the comic books hadn’t mapped out their eventual marriage, it would be nearly impossible to fathom this odd couple hooking up. 'There are a lot of questions about the Lois and Clark situation,' agrees Tom. 'I'm not sure why she's in Smallville. Her character is very entertaining and fun to watch. She brings an element to Smallville that wasn't there before, but I'm not sure what the plan is for Lois. If anything, I thought there would be some kind of Lois/Lex relationship.'"

Superman Versus ... Erm, Superman

Wed July 19th 2006 @ 9:26AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I miss being in high school; it was a time not so long ago when I could get away with so much! And so, apparently, can Oregon high school student Julia Waterhous, who has shamelessly (and amusingly) defiled the hallowed ground that is the Superman saga in today's edition of the Seattle Times. You don't put Superman in a head-to-head with Superman: you just know one of them will mess up their spit curl.

On the heels of Bryan Singer's effects-laden yet origin-light blockbuster, Superman Returns, which stars newcomer Brandon Routh, Julia's article takes a look at the reasons why Smallville is still – after five years and more than 100 episodes – drawing in fans week after week. Here are a few excerpts from the article:

1. The story lines. The plots are really complex; but at the same time, the overall story is simple, because we know how it's going to end.

2. The girls. If the grown-up Clark Kent's lover is Lois Lane, what on earth will happen to Lana? And the Lois of Smallville is hard-headed and stubborn, so how and when, exactly, do they turn into lovers?

3. Clark's inner turmoil. Clark has this huge secret that he is trying to hide from the world, and it's absolutely agonizing watching him hide it from the ones he loves - just because he's trying to protect them.

4. Jor-El. Jor-El is unique to Smallville. He's a complete mystery and you can never tell whether his intentions are good or bad.

5. What can I say? Tom Welling is absolutely gorgeous. Would Smallville be the same with a different actor playing Clark? Why are you even asking?

6. Clark Kent is so ... good. There is no other word for it, and that is what makes him un-human. He always does what is right, and although people strive to be that virtuous, nobody is truly capable of it.

Hmmm. Reason 5 was interesting. Having run down through her six reasons, Julia closes by noting that "Smallville, unlike the big-screen Superman, manages to touch the viewer intimately, and makes you want to reach out to Clark and make his life OK."

This disquisition has certainly touched me - you're not supposed to make me sniffle at 9:30 in the morning!

Tom's Entertainment Weekly Shoot

Tue July 18th 2006 @ 10:07PM - James - Tom Welling - 21 Comments

With huge thanks, once again, to Jana, I've uploaded eight new images from Tom's Entertainment Weekly shoot with Justin Stephens. My favourites are definitely the third and seventh images in the gallery, and I believe Jana's a fan of the leather jacket, too. Great minds (or one great mind and one warped mind, that being my own) really do think alike!

In addition, although I don't usually post stalkerazzi media (and have no intention of doing it again any time soon), I've decided to make an exception with these four images of Tom and Jamie from May 30th. My reasoning is that they do a good job of rebutting certain rumours which have been doing the rounds ...

As always, please remember to thank Jana for her generosity in the comments.

Smallville Season Six Premiere Date

Mon July 17th 2006 @ 9:24PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Earlier today, at the CW's Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, it was announced that Smallville's sixth season will premiere on the CW Network on Thursday, September 28th, at 8:00pm.

It's likely that there will be more news from the afternoon session later today (or tomorrow if it's gets too late and I start snoring), including information about which of the CW's stars bothered to show up. If Tom's there it will be his third presentation in a row, so we'll have to wait and see if it's third time lucky!

Edit: Smallville made a fairly poor showing at the TCA's yesterday, but that's forgiveable since the cast and crew have only just started to film the show's sixth season. I'm content to sit back and wait for a fantastic new season in September.

Tom On Cover Of TV Guide

Mon July 17th 2006 @ 6:19PM - James - Tom Welling - 5 Comments

According to Craig over at KryptonSite, one of the four choices of cover for the latest issue of TV Guide (July 24-July 30) features what appears to be a new promo image of Tom - and the now seemingly obligatory Photoshopped blue eyes are out in full force! It's a nice picture, but those eyes really are giving me the creeps ...

In addition to being featured on the cover, Smallville is also featured in an article inside the magazine. The article mainly discusses some of the characters who will be popping up during the show's sixth season, including - oops, I'd better not say. Read Craig's write-up for the TV Guide scoop.

New CW Promo Clip

Tue July 11th 2006 @ 9:28PM - Cindy - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

The CW network has just started their first image campaign, and has trotted out their stable of stars for a new campaign promo. Tom is featured in there along with his Smallville co-star Erica Durance, and stars from the CW's other shows, including Supernatural's Jensen Ackles, and the Gilmore Girls' Matt Czuchry.

In great news for all of Tom's fans, a One Tree Hill site named www.daretomove.net has posted a clip of the video. Just look for the link on their main page. Many thanks to Mia for the tip on this one!

Edit: The video is now featured in slightly higher quality on the home page of CWTV.com. Thanks go to Boogie for this latest update!

Big Addition Coming Soon!

Sat July 8th 2006 @ 9:24PM - James - Tom Welling - 11 Comments

I've been very quiet this week, and that's because of a combination of two things: there's been very little news about Tom lately (I haven't found anything noteworthy in days!), and I've also been working on a fairly big addition to TomWelling.org. It's something I've been considering for a while, and after a lot of thought I'm finally going to get around to it over the next few weeks.

I'm not going to reveal what the addition is just yet, but this obvious clue will probably be quite telling for some of TomWelling.org's more long-term visitors: it's something that this site used to have back when it was first launched, and which many people enjoyed using until I was forced to remove it.

Please bear with me over the next few weeks, as it will take a lot of time to get everything working correctly. I'll reveal all soon, I promise!

Happy 4th Wedding Anniversary Tom & Jamie

Wed July 5th 2006 @ 1:36AM - James - Tom Welling - 19 Comments

Today is Tom and Jamie's 4th Wedding Anniversary, and once again I can't believe that it has been this long already. This site had been open for less than two months when they were married on July 5th, 2002!

Traditionally gifts of flowers or linen/silk are given to celebrate a fourth anniversary, but since it's hayfever season all of my flowers are in quarantine and all of my silk handkerchiefs are in use ...

As always I would personally like to wish both Tom and Jamie a wonderful day, and all the best for the future. If you'd like to leave a message for Tom and Jamie yourself, please do so down in the comments.

Comments are now closed; I usually close up comments the day after a birthday or anniversary, but I, um, forgot to. I'm getting slow in my old age ...

Vote For Tom!

Mon July 3rd 2006 @ 10:06PM - Cindy - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

Never one to miss a chance to make that sure everyone knows how much I love Tom Welling, I simply adore things like this. The Boston Globe's web edition (www.boston.com) has an online poll to find the hottest celebrity hunk.

Of course Tom is out in front, but I want to make sure it stays that way. Click on the link to make your voice heard ...

Tom Throws First Pitch At Red Sox Game

Sun July 2nd 2006 @ 5:22PM - James - Tom Welling - 10 Comments

I've been away for a few days and have literally just got back to a usable computer; but luckily I've only missed one "big" news story about Tom since last Wednesday - and it's definitely a good one!

Last Thursday, June 29th, Tom threw the first pitch for a Boston Red Sox vs. New York Mets – baseball, if you're of the not-very-sporty persuasion – game at Fenway Park, according to the Boston Herald:

Smallville star Tom Welling – with all his Superman strength – tossed out the first pitch at Fenway Park last night. Tom, who got married on Martha's Vineyard four summers ago, is in town with his best bud, Lexington homey – and Spyglass Entertainment veep – Derek Evans, who is a big Red Sox fan. Post-game the boys were expected to repair to a private box at Game On!

There don't seem to be that many photos from the event, at least for now, but the four images that I've found so far (including one that accompanied the Boston Herald article) are now posted in the media gallery. Hopefully that's good enough for the time being.

I'll be sure to find out what other news I've missed in the next day or two, when I've had a chance to get my bearings back! If you spot something that you think I should know about, please contact me.

Big thanks go out to Louise and Robyne! It was nice to find something like this in my inbox after a few days offline.
