'Hypnotic' Screen Captures

Fri March 31st 2006 @ 4:54PM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

I'm sorry that these took a little longer than usual. Even robots have to sleep! At least I finally got around to uploading 574 screen caps from last night's fresh new episode of Smallville, 'Hypnotic'.

This episode wasn't the best, but it did set up some fairly important aspects that will be covered throughout the remainder of the season. If you'd like to share your own thoughts about the episode, please drop by the message board or leave a comment.

Cheaper By The Dozen 2 Screen Captures

Fri March 31st 2006 @ 5:11AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I can tell that today's going to be busy on the screen capping front. Later on I'll be capturing last night's episode of Smallville, 'Hypnotic', but for now here are a few hundred captures of Tom Welling from Cheaper By The Dozen 2. Tom's role was fairly small, but there are still some really nice scenes in there.

No Tom in Dreamwatch!

Thu March 30th 2006 @ 4:36PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Despite being featured on the "next issue" page of Dreamwatch #139, there isn't an interview with Tom Welling in the new issue, which was released in the UK today. Instead there's a four-page article about Smallville's 100th episode, which has just aired in the UK. The article contains a rehashed interview with John Schneider, and what appears to be a new interview with Annette O'Toole.

Somebody at Dreamwatch needs a telling off. I just wasted £3.75!

Clark Versus Lex at TV Guide

Thu March 30th 2006 @ 12:36PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

In a "new" article (I think it's a modified version of the article in the current issue of TV Guide magazine) over at the TV Guide Insider, Tom Welling and Al Gough have a few comments about the ensuing battle between Clark and Lex on Smallville. None of Tom's comments are anything new, and some of Al's may upset a few people: but I'm just the messenger, so don't shoot me!

In addition, TV.com now has a preview clip for tonights new episode of Smallville, 'Hypnotic'. The clip only features Lex and Lana, so you may or may not wish to watch it. Your choice!

There's a also a really nice interview with James Marsters over at Wizard Entertainment. In it he talks about his role as Brainiac, and has some interesting things to say about both Clark Kent, and his alter ego, Tom Welling:

"It's the most harmonious set I've ever worked on. There are no jerks in the pool. I've gotten to work most with Tom [Welling] and that is fabulous. We both have PSPs so we race each other on those and goof around."

James isn't the first cast member – both current and former – to have spoken about the great atmosphere on the Smallville set.

Golf Tournament Update

Wed March 29th 2006 @ 6:13PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

As an update on the news from earlier today, I've now got confirmation that Tom Welling is scheduled to play at the Museum of Television & Radio's Annual Celebrity Golf Classic, on April 10th at the Riviera Country Club in California. Hopefully Tom's Smallville schedule won't conflict with this event, as it did with Cosmopolitan's "Fun Fearless Males" party last month.

However, in slightly disappointing but not unexpected news, the tournament is a private, invitation-only event. The general public won't be allowed into the area, so anyone hoping to see the celebrity participants may be disappointed.

Tom at Golf Tournament and Smallville Spoilers

Wed March 29th 2006 @ 1:03PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

According to the Superman Homepage, Tom Welling is currently scheduled to appear at this year's annual Museum of Television & Radio Celebrity Golf Classic. The event will be held on Monday, April 10th, at the Riviera Country Club in California. This doesn't appear to be 100% confirmed anywhere just yet, but hopefully I'll have something more concrete very soon. Tom's a big fan of golf, so hopefully it's true. I want to do a breakdown on his slice! Not that I know a thing about golf. This is usually a pretty big event event with wide coverage on entertainment news shows.

There is also a short segment about the recent filming of 'Fade' over at 24 Hours Vancouver:

"The star of the long-running hit series Smallville recently proved he didn't need the help of a stunt double while shooting on location downtown near Robson and Homer. Tom Welling, who plays a young Clark Kent in the series, performed several stunts himself, even walking on a wire for one scene."

Meanwhile, over at TV Guide Online, Michael Ausiello has some more spoilers for the last few episodes of Smallville's fifth season. There's some good stuff in there, and they're pretty big spoilers, so proceed with caution.

Weekend Round-Up

Mon March 27th 2006 @ 12:06PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

TV Guide Channel's 25 Things You Didn't Know About Supernatural TV aired last night, and Cindy sent along the video clip of Smallville's mentions on the show. The first clip came from a segment about shows filmed in Vancouver, Canada, although the main focus was on Supernatural - perhaps unsurprisingly. The second segment was about Tom Welling's initial hesitation to audition for the role of Clark Kent; and how the runner-up was none other than Jensen Ackles, who, erm, appeared on Smallville during season four, and now stars in Supernatural. Go figure. Jensen noted that he often plays golf with Tom, and that they're still good friends. Note to self: learn to play golf, it might be an "in". So anyway, here's the video clip.

The WB has also released their official description for 'Fragile', and now there's absolutely no question that Tom directed the episode. Not that there was really any question to start with, but hey. Official confirmation is good. I just hope the episode lives up to the expectation! I'm sure Tom did well, but the story sounds slightly iffy. Ah well.

In Cheaper By The Dozen 2 news, the official UK site has been updated with a blurb about the Region 2 DVD release on April 3rd. I'm still surprised that the UK is getting the DVD before the US ... we haven't even got the DVD of The Fog over here yet! I'll probably get over the shock soon enough.

And speaking of The Fog, it's one of the options in the 2006 Spacey Awards "Space Choice: Best Horror Movie" category. The public can't vote on the Space Choice categories, and given the other choices in the category I'll be surprised if The Fog wins. Still, toes are crossed. Meanwhile, in the Viewers Choice, Smallville is only featured in two categories. The entire cast is an option in the "Fave TV Ensemble Cast" category, and James Marsters gets a nod in the "Fave New TV Character" category, for his performance as Professor Milton Fine/Brainiac.

The Spacey Awards air on Canada's Space Channel on Saturday, May 27th.

And last, but by no means least, I hope to get rid of this dark site design in the next week or so. I still haven't finished the huge rebuild that I've been mentioning for months, but as a stop-gap measure a lighter, airier design is well on the way to being ready. The site will probably be closed for a few hours when I make the update, so don't worry if you find the site inaccessible at any time soon.

Behind-The-Scenes Of 'Fade' And More

Thu March 23rd 2006 @ 4:19AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

The cast and crew of Smallville were out and about in Vancouver on Tuesday, shooting scenes from 'Fade', which airs on April 27th. Craig has posted a handful of images over at KryptonSite, and there are also some really fantastic shots on the forum at Hollywood North Report. Be warned that they may contain spoilers. And persons devoid of gravity.

In other news, TV Guide has all but confirmed what we already knew: that Tom directed 'Fragile'. And speaking of TV Guide, on Sunday the TV Guide Channel is airing a show named 25 Things You Didn't Know About Supernatural TV. The program should feature Smallville, since Tom Welling and Kristin Kreuk were both apparently shown in the advertisement.

Finally, AMO has posted the first part of their newest interview with Allison Mack. There's nothing specifically about Tom, but it's still a fun read. And there are some spoilers in there, as should probably be expected.

That was today's important news round-up. Waking at 4:00am is probably not healthy.

TV Guide Welcomes Back Smallville

Tue March 21st 2006 @ 1:26PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

The March 27th - April 2nd issue of TV Guide features an article about the return of Smallville to TV screens on March 30th, with 'Hypnotic'.

There are a couple of quotes from Tom Welling in the article, including the fairly obvious "There's just complete mistrust between [Clark and Lex]." On Clark's relationship with Lana, Tom notes that "I think Clark will always love Lana, but what he realized is that he may never be able to be with her, for her own safety."

Craig has also posted some more snippets from the article over at KryptonSite; few of them refer to Tom directly, but there are one or two spoilers about Clark in there.

In addition, the April issue of Dreamwatch (out in the UK at the end of this month) will feature an interview with Tom about his work on Smallville. I'll pick that up as soon as I see it - living in the UK does have the occasional benefit, after all! I just hope it's a new interview, and not a rehash.

Thanks to Terry for those quotes from TV Guide, and to Linnea for the news about Dreamwatch!

I won't be updating very often for the next week or two as I'm insanely busy, but as always I'll post anything that's really important. If nothing else, I might find the time to keep adding one or two images from my collection to the image gallery. Over the weekend I added a few hundred screen caps from the 'Picture Perfect' music video that Tom featured in, way back in 2000. They're not great quality since the source video is pretty poor, but I did my best.

Some Season Two Screen Captures

Sat March 18th 2006 @ 5:39AM - James - Tom Welling - 5 Comments

Yet again I've been busy capping away, and I've now added screen captures of Tom Welling from the first eight episodes of Smallville's second season. Let me know if I'm overdoing it on the gallery ... over 29,000 images may be just a touch insane.

After this I think I might take the weekend off.

First 'Hypnotic' Stills

Wed March 15th 2006 @ 2:09AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

The WB has finally released a few preview stills for 'Hypnotic', which will mark of the end of the current row of Smallville repeats on March 30th. Two of the images feature Tom Welling as Clark Kent; and both of them show him in a position that will probably be quite well-known to frequent viewers of the show. He's always in one predicament or another!

There are eleven more images, which are quite spoilery in nature, that you can view over on KryptonSite. This episode looks to be another good one!

Cheaper by the Dozen 2 DVD Details

Mon March 13th 2006 @ 5:06AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Details about the extras that will be included on the DVD release of Cheaper By The Dozen 2 have finally been released by 20th Century Fox - although the date of the DVD's release seems to be back up in the air. Following some tentative reports which suggested the Region 1 version would go on sale this week, many outlets are now reporting that the Region 1 DVD will not be released until May 23rd; although surprisingly, the Region 2 release still appears to be scheduled for April 3rd.

Anyway, the extras according to Fox UK:

  • Audio Commentary by Director Adam Shankman
  • Fox Movie Channel presents "Casting Session"
  • "Camp Chaos" and "A Comedic Trio" Featurettes
  • A behind-the-scenes look at what happens when working with more than 24 actors, mostly kids and a dog!
It doesn't sound like there's going to be that much for us Tom Welling fans, but hey, I could be pleasantly surprised. Stranger things have happened very occasionally.

Tom Visits Supernatural

Sun March 12th 2006 @ 11:56PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

This is yet another nice story for the pile! Jared Padalecki (I won't call him Padlocki this time, I promise!) – who stars in the WB's Supernatural along with former Smallville star Jensen Ackles – appeared at the Grand Slam convention in Pasadena, California, on Saturday. Dawn, who runs Supernatural.tv, was kind enough to pass along a recap of the event, which includes a fun story about Tom Welling. As both Smallville and Supernatural are shot in Vancouver, one fan asked Jared if the two crews ever have the chance to meet up: he responded that due to their busy schedules, there's rarely enough time for any interaction. However, on one occasion during the filming of an episode of Supernatural entitled 'Asylum' (Where have I heard that title before?), Smallville was being shot quite close by ...

"So Jared and Jensen had Tom Welling come to the set and hide in the back of the Impala for a shot in which the brothers were supposed to be driving up to a bar and getting out of the car. Then, as cameras rolled, three people got out of the car instead of two. They heard someone in the crew say 'what the fu–?' and Jared said the crew almost sicced security on Tom before they realized who he was."

You can read the full account of the event over at Live Journal. That Impala must have a big back seat.

Another Fun Comment

Fri March 10th 2006 @ 1:26AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

In the March issue of Germany's TV Highlights magazine, Smallville's ex-resident Sheriff, Camille Mitchell, is featured in a two-page interview about her time on the show. Among her many interesting comments is a really nice story about the time her son spent on set during the filming of 'Mortal', last July. These excerpts are translated from German, and being the stubborn so-and-so that I am, I decided to do it myself. So any errors are entirely my own fault:

"My son was on vacation from school, and I had to work, so I took him with me to the set. Everybody was really nice to him from the outset. It was really hot outside, and we were out shooting on location at the Kent farm. I returned from my close-ups and went off searching for my son, who wasn't in my trailer; after a little while I found him, playing American Football out in the Kents' cornfield with Tom Welling and guest star Kenny Johnson. The three were having so much fun! It was one of those picture-perfect moments: one of those sights that completely warms your heart, both as a mother and as a human being."

Camille also had some good news about the condition of stuntman Chris Sayour, who was injured on the Smallville set just over seven months ago:

"I was extremely shocked when that happened, just like everyone else. However he is now well again; if he hadn't been a fully-trained, professional stuntman, it's likely that he would have been killed. He suffered extremely serious injuries. As far as I know he should begin working again very soon."

This interview was obviously conducted some time ago, and I believe Chris has now returned to work, which is great news. Whether he'll be climbing any high scaffolds again remains to be seen! I certainly wouldn't be trying that again - not that I'd, err, be climbing them anyway.

Many thanks to Andrea (WathorigHH for those who visit the KryptonSite Forums) for the article!

More Smallville Season One Screen Caps

Wed March 8th 2006 @ 6:25PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I've been busy capping away over the last few days, and I've now added screen captures of Tom Welling, aka Clark Kent, from the last nine episodes of Smallville's first season to the image gallery. That's episode #1.13, 'Kinetic', through to the season finale, episode #1.21, 'Tempest'. Each episode gallery contains an average of around 600 images, which means there are now close to 23,000 images in 57 galleries!

Enjoy! Only 67 episodes left to cap ... suddenly I feel a little woozy. I may need to rest again.

More Smallville Spoilers

Wed March 8th 2006 @ 12:29PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I don't do the spoilers thing all that often, but hey, it's quiet around here so why not. Michael Ausiello over at TV Guide Online has updated with his latest column, and it contains a few small –- and not so small –- spoilers for the rest of Smallville's fifth season.

There's Clark Kent, Chloe Sullivan, Lana Lang, and Lex Luthor goodness all in one fell scoop!

Space View Awards

Mon March 6th 2006 @ 3:35PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

The current issue (March/April 2006) of the German magazine, Space View, contains the results of the 2005 Space View Awards – and unsurprisingly, Smallville did fairly well. In the "Best TV Series" category, Smallville placed first ahead of Lost with 18.9%. Tom Welling didn't do quite so well in his solo categories, however he did place a very respectable second in both the "Best TV Actor" and "Sexiest Man" category, with 15.6% and 15.9% respectively. Meanwhile, Kristin Kreuk also placed second in both the "Best Actress" and "Sexiest Woman" categories.

The issue also features an image of Tom Welling and James Marsters on the cover, as the magazine contains an interview with Al Gough about Smallville's successful fifth season.

Love/Hate Relationship With Rumours

Sun March 5th 2006 @ 1:31PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

I've received a couple of emails recently about a rumour that Tom could star as Billy Bean in a film based on Billy's best-selling novel, Going The Other Way. For those who don't know, Billy was a major league baseball player who revealed that he was homosexual in 1999 amid a flurry of publicity. This rumour has been doing the rounds for around a week, and first popped up during my little rest period, which was typical. I decided not to post about it until I could find out something more concrete; that, or until the rumour became a little louder. The latter is the case here.

I first found the rumour over at Mr. Nightlife's Hollywood, and while the reliability of that site seems to be reasonably good most of the time, the track record is far from 100%. I haven't found anything else about it yet, so who knows. Tom has been rumoured to star in anything from Die Hard 4 to Dragon Ball Z in the last 18 months ... and no, you won't have heard about the Dragon Ball Z thing here. It pains me to even mention it in passing.

This would be a challenging role for sure, but I'm not sure whether it's a film I would want to see; the story is very touching, however the only sport-related films that I've ever enjoyed are the Mighty Ducks trilogy and Cool Runnings! Seriously.

ETA: I've disabled commenting on this story because some of the comments were borderline gay-bashing. I'm really disappointed by some of what has been said, and now more than ever I'm thankful that the comments aren't published until I've approved them. The majority of comments were perfectly reasonable, but unfortunately a small number were not; to avoid argument I won't be approving any of them.

New Smallville Trailer

Fri March 3rd 2006 @ 6:35PM - James - Tom Welling - 6 Comments

The latest installment in the WB's "Vengeance Chronicles" (which have yet to feature Tom in any new scenes, so boo to them), entitled '33.1', features a really nice treat for fans of Smallville who are waiting impatiently for the show's return on March 30th: a new trailer featuring scenes from some future episodes. Poor Lex, always being beaten up. Poor Lana, always making silly decisions. Poor Clark, always being ... well, Clark.

I've uploaded a Quicktime version of the trailer just in case you want a downloadable copy.

Tom Welling is featured pretty heavily in the trailer, as he should be given that he's the star of the show; but perhaps more notable are some rather unexpected castmates. It looks like the next few episodes will be lots of fun! Which makes it all the more annoying that they're still almost one whole month away.
