Tonight on Smallville: Centennial Shockers

Thu January 26th 2006 @ 11:25PM - James - Tom Welling - 23 Comments

It's finally here ... all right, so there are a few hours left, but who's counting? I see. I've just been informed that everybody is counting, and that I'm not helping in the slightest.

So I'll just leave it at this: Enjoy! And after you've enjoyed, why not drop by and leave your comments about an episode that will – if the publicity is to believed – ensure that Smallville will never be the same again!

That was awesome ... Wow. So sad ... Did I mention wow? I'm speechless.

The show was great. I'll go ahead and say it: He flew again!!! On a softer note, I was sad to see Jonathan Kent die; he will be greatly missed. Hats off to Tom for another excellent job, this is by far his best episode yet.

In conclusion, what did Lionel Luthor show Jonathan? Or will we ever know.

Awww ... the episode is over and I want more! It ended right when I didn't want it to, but I guess that's how it goes.

I loved it! It's a complete shocker the way everything is set up and ends up! Everyone should watch it.

I can't believe Clark lost Lana - she may not be dead any more, but he's lost her heart.

On top of that, Clark's dad is gone - always a good man and voice of reason. Very very sad. I actually cried seeing the funeral of Pa Kent.

What a life Clark has. I never realized how lonely is was to be the "Man Of Steel". I must say, I enjoy this different view of the story of Superman - it let's you see inside the man that is to be our greatest Super-Hero.

Art sure imitates life. This whole series has mirrored alot of angst life has dealt me since high school. Brief moments of happiness punctuated with long periods of just trying to cope.

Did anyone see the resemblance to Tru Calling in this episode? That was another show I truly miss.

Tonight's best part was definitely the beginning, but the music and action were also good. I don't like the continuation of Lana being in the dark, though.

Absolutely Tom's best performance to date. He was spectacular in his delivery of the many emotions this episode required: joy, sorrow, loss, love, uncertainty.

It was a wonderful and I must say a very heart wrenching evening. I can't believe that Jonathan is gone, but I knew it had to be him for Clark to move on to his ultimate destiny: Superman!

I agree with everyone, what an episode! How very sad for Clark to lose both Lana's heart and his Dad in one day. I'm sure the guilt will tear at him.

At least Clark has two people to talk to about it, because he deserves a break. So I guess this means Lana will go to Lex now? So sad.

I just can't accept the death of Jonathan, it's too sad. I already miss him.

I was kind of underwhelmed about this episode, although I thought Tom did a great job with it. It really needed to be a two-parter, or an extended episode.

I have my fingers crossed that we will see a big change in Clark after the events in this episode.

I was disapponted that Clark didn't tell Lana the truth, and then Jonathan died which broke my heart. This was such a sad episode.

Fri January 27th 2006 @ 4:12AM GMT - Hina

I was so sad, I can't believe that Lana and Clark aren't together any more! :( I was hoping everything would just stay the way it was when he told her the secret ... but everything changed.

Overall the episode was still very good, and Tom Welling did some awesome acting in this one. I cried at the last part!

It seems they're staying true to the original story line after all; we knew Dad had to die at some point. As much as I hated to see them kill off Dad, I still loved the episode. I was dubious when they first cast John Schneider in the role, but he brought a fresh presentation to it.

Lana Lang played the counter to Lois in the original story line, so it'll be interesting how they handle that and begin to spin things up a few notches with Lois and Clark. I feel the end is coming soon (another season?) after they put Clark and Lois in Metropolis.

Of course, being a lifetime fan, I'd like to see it go another 5 years!

I am more than surprised that Jonathan died. I thought his role was crucial to Smallville and that he wouldn't die until Clark was ready to be Superman; now the show is left with an unusual balance of characters.

All of Clark's allies are women (Martha, Lana, Chloe, Lois) and his antagonists are men (Lex, Lionel and Jor-El).

I have watched Smallville from the beginning, and this episode had me crying at the end.

This show was just awesome. I loved the plot twist that allowed us to think that Lana had died, until Clark relived that day and Jonathan died instead. The writers did a great job of confusing us!

Tom's acting was magnificent! The way he was so happy to be married ... then so heartbroken at Lana's death that he had to be physically held back. And how sad he was when his Pa died and he had to comfort his Mom. Annette O'Toole did a great job as the grieving Mom. Just great acting all round.

I was sad to see John Schneider go.

A brilliant episode from start to finish, with excellent performances all round ... but Tom out shone them all.

He played out all the emotions perfectly. His portrayal of the ultimate sacrifice – to give up his own deepest need and desire, to protect the one he loves – was heartbreaking, poignant and totally believable. His acting is going from strength to strength, and he's a truly talented young man.

Congratulations to the whole Smallville team for their 100th show. Here's to at least another 32! :)

I burst into tears twice during this episode, first when Lana died and later when Jonathan died.

Wow, I can't believe Jonathan is dead. That was a shock. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen because everybody did such a great job on this episode; it really makes you wonder what is going to happen to the farm, and what Martha's going to do now.

I've been thinking a lot about the 100th episode. How ironic that when Clark came to earth the meteor shower took Lana's parents' lives. Then, when Clark used the last crystal to save Lana's life, he unknowingly gave up the opportunity to save Jonathan. Clark caused the death of Lana's parents even though it wasn't actually his fault. In like manner, Lana caused the death of Clark's father even though it was not her fault. Poor Clark! Now, not only will he feel quilty for the death of Lana's parents but also for the death of his own adoptive father.

I think this will be a deciding factor in the final break up between Lana and Clark. He will be so riddled with guilt that he will continue to push Lana away. Poor Lana! Once again, from her point of view, she will lose someone that she loves, and I believe she will turn to Lex. I think the fact that both Clark and Lex are in love with Lana will be one of the main reasons for their adversity.

Sorry to get carried away, but as I said at the beginning, I've been thinking alot about the 100th episode. Thanks to the Smallville writers for a very interesting storyline. Keep up the good work!

i think it was a great episode, except for the part where Jonathon died. I hope they keep going with Smallville for a long time.

I thought that this episode was the best one yet! It's so sad that Lana and Clark broke up as well as his Dad dying. Tom did a great job in this episode and I can't wait for them to get to the point where Clark becomes Superman.

I'll miss Pa Jonathan just as much as Clark will. Who will take care of Clark and Martha now that he's gone? I hope Clark stays with her, especially when he's not out there saving the world.
