Review Time For The Fog

Mon October 17th 2005 @ 7:27PM - James - Tom Welling - 6 Comments

Ah, so what did I think of The Fog? Tom's debut lead movie role; a film that I've been promoting up the wazoo for eight whole months. In all honesty, I would say that this could have been much, much worse; then again, it could also have been a whole lot better. So was it on a par with the original? I thought so, but then I wasn't a huge fan of the original in the first place. Having said that, both are very, very different to one another. The worst I can really say is that I didn't consider it to be great. It was watchable, and I did (to my surprise) enjoy it quite a lot - even the parts that Tom wasn't in, just in case my ever-so-slight bias is showing.

But that's not the real review; how could someone such as myself, with a penchant for rambling, review a movie in so few words? Nuh huh, not happening. So I guess you'll find the real, spoilerific review right here!

2.5 stars out of 5. And I was feeling pretty generous today.

I love your review, those were my thoughts exactly! I didn't care for the shower scene either. And they could've given Tom more credit on his acting abilities, he's capable of doing much more than what they gave him to work with.

I thought Tom did a good job of shedding Clark and playing Nick, though I guess I'm biased. :) Did anyone else notice that Spooner resembled Pete (Sam Jones III), and that there were two girls with him, a brunette and a blonde??? Funny coincidence.

That was a great review, well said! I was very disappointed that Tom chose The Fog as his next movie; it's too bad that his skills were wasted on a movie like this.

Yup, gotta agree with you there, James. While Tom was great, the movie itself came out lacking somehow. Maybe it's because I've seen the original and knew certain parts were coming? I just don't know.

Tom has so much talent, why did he waste it on a movie that was going nowhere?

Hey J, excellent review. I just got back from seeing it myself. Tom did a fantastic job with some really iffy material. My only criticism is that whereas he's become very good at acting with his voice and facial expressions, he still seems to have a hard time with his physical presence. When he has to act and move around, his performance falters a bit.

Other than that, I thought he really did an excellent job at portraying Nick. You saw the character there. Not the actor, or in Tom's case, Clark Kent. I'm always particularly impressed by an actor who can bring a character to life like that - go Tom!
