First Critic Reviews Roll In

Fri October 14th 2005 @ 11:09PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The first few critic reviews for The Fog are now starting to pop up, and just as with the fan reviews, they're a decidedly mixed bag.

For the Houston Chronicle, Christy Lemire gave the movie two-stars out of four, and writes:

"Some movies are so atrocious that the studios keep critics from seeing them before opening day, hoping and praying for one decent weekend at the box office before being done in by word of mouth. The Fog didn't need to be one of them."

In a slightly less positive review at iFMagazine.com, The Fog is given a D-. Though it does appear that reviewer Carl Cortez is one of the many who simply didn't want a remake at all; which is fair enough:

"Less effective than [John Carpenter’s] lower budgeted original, the movie is saddled with a younger cast, more CGI, modern rock music and an attempt to add more depth to the back story. Torpedoing the rest of the movie are pretty faces, but empty performances from stars Welling, Grace and Selma Blair."

How can you really be offended by a review when the reviewer simply seems to hate everything?! Give him a happy pill and shove him back in the theatre. Maybe he'll change his mind; or maybe not.

Joe Leydon was unimpressed but relatively forgiving in his review for Variety, though he does note that "There's conspicuously little chemistry between nominal leads Tom Welling and Maggie Grace."

Now why does that sound familiar? Oops, I'm forgetting that this isn't my review ...
