Tom Gets 'Exposed'

Mon October 31st 2005 @ 5:52AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Oops, that title may read a little differently to how it was intended. Errr ... in a new article at Zap2it about this week's episode of Smallville (featuring a guest appearance by John Schneider's Dukes of Hazzard co-star, Tom Wopat, for those who aren't keeping track), Tom – Welling ... this could get confusing really fast – discusses how much fun it was to be on set with the two old friends:

"They were like two kids in a candy store, being together. You could tell that a lot of the old gags came up again."

Tom also mentions that he used to watch the show all the time when he was growing up, though he does note that he had to catch some of the earlier episodes when they were rebroadcast in syndication: "John's going to hate me for saying this, but they began that show the year I was born."

I think Tom's rounding up again: first he said that The Fog, a movie made in 1979, was made the year he was born; now a series that started in 1979 also began the year he was born. Tom? You were born in 1977; you really can't stay 26 forever. Movies that fit the profile are Star Wars, Annie Hall, and the original Fun With Dick And Jane ... though I won't be cruel enough to point out why that's relevant.

And it seems I wasn't the only one getting confused by having two TW's to talk about. Phew. Weight off my shoulders.

Thanks to Boogalou for the link to the interview!

Some More Smallville Stills

Thu October 27th 2005 @ 1:28PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

What is it with everything coming in bursts? Up until a couple of weeks ago it was all Fog this and Fog that. Now everything seems to be about next week's episode of Smallville ... 'Exposed', I think it's called.

At any rate, Craig has posted up a few more images from the episode over at KryptonSite. And since I'm in a surprisingly good mood I'll also post up one of them myself. The images are mostly variants of those that were released a few days ago; however I'm a huge fan of variants, so I'm not going to complain too loudly.

More 'Exposed' Stills

Tue October 25th 2005 @ 12:06PM - James - Tom Welling - 12 Comments

I'm such a sucker for a good suck-up! All of that begging for more pictures seems to have done the trick on my cold little heart ... though I suspect more of it would warm my heart still further. Hmmm, what's that? Right, I shouldn't push my luck any more.

I'll just move onto the good stuff. I have a few more pictures from 'Exposed', including quite a few of Clark looking decidedly uncomfortable with Lois' antics (what else is new?) and one of him in what appears to be bodyguard-mode. Clark smash!? Oh, and there's also a picture of him admiring something smooth and glistening - and I should probably add that this something has four wheels, not two legs.

'Exposed' Stills

Tue October 25th 2005 @ 12:59AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

A number of new stills from 'Exposed' have just been posted up over at KryptonSite; the episode, which airs on November 3rd on the WB, features Clark wearing a suit again ... I would explain exactly why Clark's all dressed up, but from where I'm sitting you never need an excuse to put a man in a nice suit. I never look better than when I'm wearing one! Though some people would argue that I look my best with a bag over my head.

There are two images that feature Tom, a couple of the episode's guest star, and quite a few that show Lois bearing more than a passing resemblance to Supergirl.

Pre-emptive Ix-Nay on the Umour-Ray

Mon October 24th 2005 @ 8:45PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

A particularly unfortunate rumour about Tom is doing the rounds today, and in a pre-emptive attempt to avoid the multitude of emails asking about it - I don't know, and even if I were to know it would be absolutely none of my business! There are a number of things that I consider off limits, and this particular rumour, along with any similar rumours, will always be one of them.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about please understand that I WILL NOT be spelling it out or providing a link to it here. At best the rumour is a huge invasion of privacy, and at worst it's a cruel and inconsiderate lie with the potential to hurt quite a few people. All I'm willing to say is that you shouldn't believe everything you see or hear, particularly when the "evidence" is circumstantial at best and (as is the case here) completely mixed-up at worst.

This topic is not open for discussion; comments are closed and any emails about it will be met with a very grouchy response.

PEACE Auction Final Total

Mon October 24th 2005 @ 6:38PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Though I can imagine that they're already planning their next big fundraising event, it would be nice to think that the entire PEACE team are taking a few moments to celebrate a job well-done. Every little bit helps, and the second PEACE Auction – all but one item drew to a close yesterday – has thus far raised a quite staggering total of $33,464, from donations and bids!

The highest individual bids were each in the region of $1500, for one of three personal phone calls with Adrian Paul. Those were followed closely by a bid of $1305 for a signed copy of Adrian's script from his guest-starring role on Charmed, in the episode 'Y Tu Mummy También'.

However Smallville's showing wasn't too shabby, either! The autographed cast photo was sold for an amazing $880, and Tom's signed poster went for an incredible $855!

Both congratulations and a huge word of thanks go out to the winners, the donors, and of course to the contributors!

Success for The Fog

Mon October 24th 2005 @ 6:05PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Despite slipping into an estimated fourth place at the box office this weekend behind Doom, Dreamer, and Wallace & Gromit, The Fog has already broken its $18 million production budget by taking approximately $21.5 million since its release; making back your budget within eight days of release is definitely nothing to be ashamed of for the cast and crew! Bad reviews mean absolutely nothing to the studio as long as the movie makes its money back; and I wonder who they should thank for bringing in most of that audience? I'm saying nuthin'.

It's also worth noting that The Fog placed first for the week ending October 20th, with a total of close to $14.25 million.

PEACE Auction Reminder

Sun October 23rd 2005 @ 5:15AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Adrian Paul's PEACE Auction will be ending later today, so if you haven't already placed a bid you don't have long left!

A reminder of what's on offer:

  • Smallville Poster, signed by Tom Welling. Currently $570.
  • Smallville Cast Photo, signed by nine cast members. Currently $390.
  • A Smallville Crew Bag. Currently at $330.
  • A Smallville Crew Hat. Currently at $100.
The money raised by the auction will be used to help children affected by the Boxing Day Tsunami in Southeast Asia, and by the recent Hurricanes in the USA. Please give whatever you can.

'Aqua' Shooting Stills

Sun October 23rd 2005 @ 4:34AM - James - Tom Welling - 8 Comments

What better way to make a return than bearing gifts? Of course it doesn't say much for my self-esteem if I feel the need to return with anything other than just myself; not to mention that a return has much more impact if you've been gone for longer than three days!

Regardless, the WB has released a few more stills from 'Aqua', including a number that appear to have been taken during rehearsal. And not that I didn't know this already, but it appears that Tom has an affinity for hoodies. Over here in the UK that might cause him to be ASBO'd! Believe me, you don't want to know.

I rarely post sets of episodic images, however if you'd like to see them more frequently I am open to persuasion-cum-begging.

Email Trouble and a Little Time Off

Thu October 20th 2005 @ 5:32PM - James - Tom Welling - 6 Comments

My email has been having a few problems for the last few days, so if you've sent me anything recently there's a good chance that I haven't received it.

I'm also going to try (try being the key word) to take a short break from web site duty for the next two or three days - a break that I think I've earned after the busy last few weeks! Assuming that there's anything worth reporting, I should be back by Monday at the latest; knowing myself as well as I do, I may even be back sooner than that if I find out anything really important. A long weekend does sound nice, though.

In the mean time I hope that everyone in the US enjoys 'Aqua' tonight!

Amended UK Releases for Cheaper 2 & The Fog

Tue October 18th 2005 @ 8:06PM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

In some pretty good news for Tom's fans in the United Kingdom, both Fox UK and Sony Pictures have recently amended their lists of upcoming movie releases.

According to the newly-updated listing from Fox, Cheaper by the Dozen 2 will now be released in cinemas across the UK on December 26th, 2005; the date is about five weeks sooner than previously expected. Sony, meanwhile, have indicated that The Fog will be released one week sooner than expected, on February 17th, 2006.

I've updated The Fog's previous release dates list accordingly.

Smallville Cast in Dreamwatch

Tue October 18th 2005 @ 4:20PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Issue #134 (UK version) of Dreamwatch features an interview with Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, and Kristin Kreuk, from the set of Smallville's fifth season premiere, 'Arrival'.

Richard Matthews sets the scene:

"The Smallville set is always a whirlwind of activity and embodies the definition of organised chaos, but an air of calm descends when Tom Welling, the undisputed star of the show, strolls into view."

It's a really good interview and well worth the cover price of the magazine. I especially liked Tom's answer to being asked whether he thought he'd look better than Superman Returns star Brandon Routh in the blue tights? His media savvy reply:

"I'll tell you this: I did not think that ..."

Thanks to Sue for the tip-off about that one.

The Fog Glides to First

Mon October 17th 2005 @ 11:13PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

With a slightly disappointing total weekend gross of almost $11.8 million, The Fog just barely took the predicted first place spot at the box office on its opening weekend; in an incredibly close-run race, the movie overcame second placed Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit by less than $250k.

Still, a win is a win. Congratulations go out to Tom and the rest of The Fog's cast and crew! I just hope they don't use this as an excuse to continue making bad movies ... oops, was that out loud?

MSN Names Tom a "Hottest Hottie"

Mon October 17th 2005 @ 8:33PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

MSN TV's Fall "Hottest Hotties" list has recently been released, and Tom is one of those featured. Here's what MSN had to say about him:

"He's restless, he's self-doubting, he saves the world ... and he's drop-dead gorgeous. Super. Man."

Somehow I think they're mistaking Tom for Clark. And clearly neither of them are drop-dead gorgeous. I'm still breathing.

Review Time For The Fog

Mon October 17th 2005 @ 7:27PM - James - Tom Welling - 6 Comments

Ah, so what did I think of The Fog? Tom's debut lead movie role; a film that I've been promoting up the wazoo for eight whole months. In all honesty, I would say that this could have been much, much worse; then again, it could also have been a whole lot better. So was it on a par with the original? I thought so, but then I wasn't a huge fan of the original in the first place. Having said that, both are very, very different to one another. The worst I can really say is that I didn't consider it to be great. It was watchable, and I did (to my surprise) enjoy it quite a lot - even the parts that Tom wasn't in, just in case my ever-so-slight bias is showing.

But that's not the real review; how could someone such as myself, with a penchant for rambling, review a movie in so few words? Nuh huh, not happening. So I guess you'll find the real, spoilerific review right here!

2.5 stars out of 5. And I was feeling pretty generous today.

Short Audio Interview with Tom

Mon October 17th 2005 @ 6:15PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Sony Pictures has released a short promotional interview with Tom through the "Entertainment Now" service, which you can download at Newstream. The site requires you to register, but I think it's worth it.

Here's what Tom had to say:

"Maggie was great. Selma Blair was fantastic. We had a good time on set. We shot a lot every day, the pace was very fast. It was a great camaraderie between everyone. This film, as opposed to a lot of other scary movies that have come out, has a history; it has a legacy attached to it. And when you've got [people] like Rupert Wainwright and John Carpenter and all these things going for a film, you know that it’s going to be a quality piece."

Oh, Tom. Quality piece? I'll just pretend they paid you a lot of money to say that ... which of course they did. Speaking of, my review will be up in an hour or two.

Tentative Premiere Date for Cheaper By The Dozen 2

Mon October 17th 2005 @ 1:22PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Once again with thanks to Seeing Stars (who also reported on the abortive premiere for The Fog), I've just learnt that the World Premiere of Cheaper By The Dozen 2 is currently scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 13th, at Mann's Village Theatre in Westwood, California.

Who wants to start a wager on whether this one ends up going ahead? I'm such a cruel person, making fun out of another's misery - nah, I think this one will happen.

And speaking of The Fog, look for my review either later today, or some time tomorrow.

Weekend Estimates Are In

Sun October 16th 2005 @ 7:38PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

In what had almost become a foregone conclusion, estimates from Sony Pictures indicate that The Fog will have taken $12.2 million by the end of this weekend, placing it first at the weekend's box office; second place goes to Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (I'm not ashamed to say that I've been a huge fan of Wallace & Gromit for over ten years!) with $11.7 million, and third place to Elizabethtown with $11 million.

The exact results will be available on Monday afternoon - let's hope the estimates were correct!

According to the daily box office report at ShowBIZ Data, on Saturday The Fog took approximately $5.1 million; this placed it second in a virtual tie just behind Wallace & Gromit.

Behind-The-Scenes of The Fog at Horror.com

Sun October 16th 2005 @ 12:48PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

A new behind-the-scenes video for The Fog has just been posted up over at Horror.com, along with the featurette that I posted a couple of days ago. It's just a shame that both of them are in Real Player format ...

The behind-the-scenes video is over five minutes long, and is a combilation of clips that were recorded during filming of the movie. Once again, most of the clips are the same as those that have been shown previously; the only difference is that this time, it's the raw – and often extended – clip without any sort of voiceover or editing.

There are also short clips up at About.com Horror, though I think those are yet another case of same old, same old.

The Fog Tops Friday's Box Office

Sat October 15th 2005 @ 5:00PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

According to a preliminary daily box office ranking on the homepage of ShowBIZ Data, The Fog topped Friday's box office with a take of approximately $4.1 million; Elizabethtown followed closely in second place, with $3.8 million.

Early predictions suggested that The Fog would take somewhere in the region of $12-15 million on its opening weekend, and at this point that seems to have been a pretty accurate prediction; assuming of course that the crowds don't die back over the weekend. Most of the reviews haven't exactly been pretty, after all. I'm not sure when I'll get to see the movie myself, but as soon as I do I'll be sure to give a review of my own! I just hope I like it.

More Items Added to PEACE Auction

Sat October 15th 2005 @ 2:53PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

A few more items have just been added to Adrian Paul's current PEACE Auction, including one item that is sure to be of interest to fans of both Tom and Smallville: a promotional photograph of the cast, signed by Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Jensen Ackles, Erica Durance, Allison Mack, John Glover, Annette O'Toole, and John Schneider.

So much for thinking Tom's autograph is fairly rare - a legitimate full cast autograph set (legitimate being the key word) is something you definitely don't see every day!

Speaking of Tom's autograph, his signed poster is currently up to $460 with just under four days left on the auction. Please bid if you can!

The Fog on ET On MTV & E! News Live

Sat October 15th 2005 @ 1:10AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I've just been contacted by Lisa, who told me that Tom was shown on last night's edition of ET on MTV; the clips and interview material were nothing more than standard-fare Sony promotional material, though it's still really nice to see Tom mentioned.

Tom and The Fog on ET On MTV - big thanks go out to Lisa!

Unsurprisingly, The Fog was also mentioned on E! News Live along with this week's other new movie releases. It was only a short, 10-second spot, but I've uploaded a clip of it anyway. You can download it if you'd like to. Though I won't blame you if you don't.

Allie & Wainwright Discuss The Fog Comic

Sat October 15th 2005 @ 1:05AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Newsarama recently interviewed The Fog's director, Rupert Wainwright, and the author of the movie's companion graphic novel, Scott Allie, about how the comic ties into the movie's story.

"What I wanted to do was come up with a real and essential backstory; because I knew that a big part of the overall story is what happened 100 years ago."

You can read the full, very in-depth interview, over on Newsarama.com.

First Critic Reviews Roll In

Fri October 14th 2005 @ 11:09PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The first few critic reviews for The Fog are now starting to pop up, and just as with the fan reviews, they're a decidedly mixed bag.

For the Houston Chronicle, Christy Lemire gave the movie two-stars out of four, and writes:

"Some movies are so atrocious that the studios keep critics from seeing them before opening day, hoping and praying for one decent weekend at the box office before being done in by word of mouth. The Fog didn't need to be one of them."

In a slightly less positive review at iFMagazine.com, The Fog is given a D-. Though it does appear that reviewer Carl Cortez is one of the many who simply didn't want a remake at all; which is fair enough:

"Less effective than [John Carpenter’s] lower budgeted original, the movie is saddled with a younger cast, more CGI, modern rock music and an attempt to add more depth to the back story. Torpedoing the rest of the movie are pretty faces, but empty performances from stars Welling, Grace and Selma Blair."

How can you really be offended by a review when the reviewer simply seems to hate everything?! Give him a happy pill and shove him back in the theatre. Maybe he'll change his mind; or maybe not.

Joe Leydon was unimpressed but relatively forgiving in his review for Variety, though he does note that "There's conspicuously little chemistry between nominal leads Tom Welling and Maggie Grace."

Now why does that sound familiar? Oops, I'm forgetting that this isn't my review ...

Fog Clips and Featurette

Fri October 14th 2005 @ 6:52PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

I've been a very lucky person today, "stumbling" across copies of the five clips that were posted up on The Fog's official site earlier this week ... but even better than that is another clip that I have: one of the movie's official featurettes.

All right, so I was actually sent them, but stumbling is much more fun as long as nobody hurts themself.

Anyway. The featurette contains much of the same material as the Starz On The Set special from a couple of weeks ago, however some of the behind-the-scenes shots do appear to be slightly different. There are six videos in total, and this time I've zipped them all together. You can download the zip file right here; just remember that you'll need an unzipping tool and Quicktime Player in order to watch them!

Unannounced Appearance on "The Mix"

Fri October 14th 2005 @ 3:53PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

They didn't announce this one, but it looks like Tom was interviewed by Eric & Kathy on WTMX 101.9 again this morning ... you can listen to most of the interview on the Eric & Kathy Podcast. Hopefully I'll be able to get a full copy of the interview at some point!

If you know of any other interviews that Tom is doing today, please let me know.

Tom Interviewed on Hypaspace

Fri October 14th 2005 @ 2:32PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The current episode of Hypaspace, which airs on the Space channel in Canada, features a short interview with Tom from the set of The Fog.

If you're able to catch the show, the weekly round-up will be airing on Saturday at 9:00am, and Sunday at 5:30pm. If you're not able to catch the show, you'll just have to make do with this. It's that ivory Henley shirt again ...

"Basically what happens in The Fog, is the fog comes to town and the fog is very upset. And it starts to hurt people. And my character, along with a few other characters, have to figure out why the fog is so upset."

"This edition of The Fog is more modern than the last one; the last one was made I think the year I was born. A lot of the characters are younger in the film itself; a lot of the characters are more connected. There's more back-story between the two. There's a relationship between my character and Elizabeth. There's also a relationship between my character and Stevie, which is Selma Blair's character. And there's sort of like a bad love triangle there. That wasn't in the original. So those kind of things are different."

Some of that made a whole lot more sense in the video than it does written down.

Another Optimistic Prediction

Fri October 14th 2005 @ 1:23PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The current edition of Entertainment Weekly's "Box Office Preview" makes a very bold prediction of how successful The Fog is likely to be this weekend - they predict a debut at No. 1"

"The first of the month's pre-Halloween scary movies, The Fog – a remake of the 1979 John Carpenter film – features two rising TV stars, Smallville’s Tom Welling and Lost’s Maggie Grace. But the draw here will be the film’s genre, which should result in a No. 1 debut of around $15 million."

I really hope that's the case, but I'm not going to get my hopes up too high just yet. I'm the first to admit that you should never underestimate Tom's ability to draw a good crowd; however this weekend he's contending with someone who has exactly the same ability: Orlando Bloom. I'd be lying if I said that I'm overly fond of Orlando's work myself (his work on the Lord of the Rings Trilogy still stands as my personal high-point), yet there are many people who are. And saying that, I don't think I'm overly fond of a lot of Tom's work, either. But that's neither here nor there.

Win, lose or draw, I think Elizabethtown is likely to be a fairly strong competitor through name-value alone - which, incidentally, is also what The Fog has going for it. Competitors, raise your weapons! Oh look, Domino already has a weapon ...

Three More Fog Reviews

Fri October 14th 2005 @ 12:09PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

To the good news: two of these reviews of The Fog are middling to positive, considering the movie an acceptable if not overly brilliant remake of a movie that was, in turn, acceptable if not overly brilliant.

To the bad news: one of the reviews considers it to be a horrible movie that's barely worth the sugar rush from all the popcorn and candy that you'll be stuffing your face with! Well, horrible aside from Tom's chest on the big-screen. Priorities.

The first review comes courtesy of Ain't It Cool News, yet again:

"In the end, you mostly just end up thinking about the fun dumb deaths and occasional funny lines (Mostly from DeRay Davis, a fellow ChiTownian who is also a hilarious stand-up comic). If you go into it thinking more Final Destination 2 and less Ring, you’ll be pleased."

The final two reviews were sent to me by a couple of TomWelling.org's loyal readers, both of whom were lucky (one of them might disagree with that) enough to see advanced screenings of the movie. You can read those reviews in their entirety on The Fog's review page.

Here are some small snippets from those reviews:

Dee: "To be fair, the actors never really get the chance to rise above the silly script. Too many plot holes and "scares" that are telegraphed way in advance, then underscored with a loud music cue to try to make the audience jump."

L: "The biggest flaws for me were what I chalked up to shoddy directing. The Fog delivers a solid PG-13 scare experience with a shocker of an ending, even if it comes from the vicinity of nowheres-ville. All in all this new hi-tech Fog has its flaws, but it's a lot of fun and is a definite recommend."

Fangoria's "Fearful Feature" is Fog-Bound

Thu October 13th 2005 @ 8:35PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Fangoria's latest "Fearful Feature", by Dayna Van Buskirk, is an in-depth look at what went into casting The Fog; and it's the first article that I've read for quite some time which actually includes some new quotes!

When asked why Tom was cast in the role of Nick Castle, producer David Foster replied:

"[The audience] respond to Tom; his show [Smallville] has been on four or five years. He’s a really good-looking dude, you know. He’s a movie-star-looking guy, and has great popularity."

It's nice to know that David holds Tom's acting ability in high regard ... oh wait. He didn't mention the acting. My bad. More interestingly, it also looks like Tom took a little convincing before he committed to the movie:

"When you’re committing to a film it’s not as easy as, ‘Wow, this sounds interesting.' I’m on set nine, ten months out of the year as it is. And so the amount of time I’m not on Smallville becomes much more important to me. It’s much more valuable, what I do with that time - whether I don’t work or take a project. And after sitting with David and Rupert and having numerous conversations with them it became something that we were all game for."

You can read the full article over on Fangoria.com.

Much Ado About Nothing

Thu October 13th 2005 @ 2:57PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

As a break from the monotony that is typing the word "Fog" repeatedly (I should probably set up a Hot Key to do it for me), it's random TomWelling.org Q&A time! I've been asked variations of these two questions on a number of occasions, so to save myself some time I'm giving a public response.

I left a comment/sent an email and it was never published/replied to! Why?

One possibility is that I never received it! Email and database servers are never free of the potential to freak out, and errors do happen. Having said that, there are occasions when I will purposely choose not to approve comments or respond to emails.

Please don't get me wrong, I always love to hear from TomWelling.org's readers; your feedback allows me to appreciate just how broad Tom's fan base really is! I make an effort to read every single comment and email, even if it means setting aside a few hours of my day just for that purpose. However, there are certain instances where I may choose not to publish or reply to your messages.

The main problem area is that some people are still mistaking me for Tom! If your message is addressed "Dear Tom", I'm going to delete it; I won't read any further than that first line. Likewise, I won't post up your proclamations of love for Tom, Clark, or anyone else! They amuse me – most of the time, though some of them would probably raise the eyebrow of a law enforcement official – immensely, but still.

It's actually quite tempting to start saving up those "deleted messages" for a monthly column: I might call it "What were these dear people thinking?!"

Why do you post up "negative" stories and rumours/speculation?

Partially because I'm self-important and enjoy having the editorial control to post about anything I want to! It's much the same as when I was whined at for posting about Mark Welling: I would like everyone who visits to feel welcome here, but I can't, and won't change my methods in an effort to please every single person. It's an admirable dream, but I'd run myself into the ground if I attempted it!

The main reason that I have for posting "negative" reviews and comments (and I use the quotation marks pointedly) is that I feel some of the best reviews and comments come from a "negative" perspective. You can often learn a lot from those comments that you might not have otherwise thought about! And while a negative comment may seem a little out of place on the average "fan" site, I really feel that it's important to give a complete and well-rounded picture.

Similarly, I could quite easily stick to only reporting the certainties, leaving out the rumours and speculation completely: but where's the fun in that?! Speculation and rumours add a dimension that I really enjoy exploring.

Another Review of The Fog

Thu October 13th 2005 @ 10:21AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Hey, this guy knows Tom's name! "Supermodel" was fun, but "Tom" is quicker to type.

So yes, we're back at Ain't It Cool News; what can I say, everyone seems to love passing their reviews along to Harry. This review is also pretty positive, though yet again it does have a few complaints. One of the more succinct lines of the review comes in the first paragraph, when the author, VH, notes that "I was not let down with the screening last night. That said, I was not blown away either."

Perhaps fortunately, many of the complaints that I've seen about the movie so far focus more on the script than on the talent of the actors involved:

"The acting is okay. I wouldn't blame such mediocrity on the actors as much as I would the limited amount of substance handed them to work with. Welling gets to drive an old pick-up and shout phrases like "Hurry up" and "C'mon, hurry up!" a lot."

So to sum up: It's not bad, but at the same time it's not especially good. Which is about what I was expecting, being a pessimist and all. The film sounds relatively enjoyable if you're looking for a half-decent horror movie, infinitely enjoyable if you're just going to gawk at the good-looking people, and probably utterly terrible if you're hoping for a flawless plot without any inconsistencies.

All in all that sounds like a solid 2.5 stars out of five. I imagine it could have been much worse!

Wed October 12th 2005 @ 9:02PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The whole of Apple Trailers has received a major overhaul today, and as part of that overhaul they've added a slew of high definition trailers - including The Fog!

You'll probably need to install the latest version of Quicktime Player, Quicktime 7, before you can view the high definition trailers; but with a maximum screen size of 1080px, they're well worth the extra trouble!

First Review of The Fog

Wed October 12th 2005 @ 7:38PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Though I'm not sure that there's a whole lot of real review in there. Ain't It Cool News has posted up what looks to be the first review of The Fog, but it mostly just reiterates a lot of what has already been shown in the trailers and featurettes. I honestly can't find a single thing in the review that I hadn't already heard in interviews with the cast and crew! And as you'll expect if you're familiar with AICN, the reviewer is primarily obsessed with talking about the "blonde from Lost." I think a skeptic might wonder if this reviewer had really seen the movie at all before writing this - but I'm no skeptic. No no.

"I was pleasantly surprised, which is quite rare. The flick does hold up, and in so doing not only does the original justice but makes a weak soup better."

Made up or not, that's a pretty good review; I can live with it. And just make sure to take the name "Supermodel" as a compliment - even if Ben didn't intend it to be one. As John Lennon once sang, "Keep on playing those mind games ..."

Watch Clips From The Fog

Wed October 12th 2005 @ 3:39PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The Fog's official website has been updated once again, this time with a link to find showtimes at Zap2it; oh, and a link which allows you to watch or download five short clips from the movie. But I'm sure the Zap2it link is more important ... right?

The five clips are:

  • "Hell of a Fog Bank" - Spooner, Sean, and the occupants of the Seagrass are attacked by the fog
  • "It's Just a Dream" - Elizabeth is awoken by the fog and is comforted by Nick
  • "Morgue Attack" - Elizabeth is attacked by Sean in the morgue
  • "Car Stall" - Stevie's car is overpowered by the fog
  • "Museum Attack" - The Town Hall/Museum is attacked by the fog as the townsfolk shelter inside
In addition, four of those five clips have also been made available in higher resolution at Yahoo! Movies.

PEACE Fund Auction Launches!

Wed October 12th 2005 @ 1:00PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The second PEACE Fund auction should be kicking off at any moment over on www.adrianpaulpeace.org, with the items on offer including autographed posters, photographs and scripts, genre clothing and props, and much, much more besides.

The money raised by the auction will go towards helping children affected by last December's Tsunami in Thailand, and by Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. Tom has always been willing to help out with donations for good causes, so let's show that his fans can make just as much of a difference!

'Hidden' Preview at AOL

Wed October 12th 2005 @ 11:59AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

At this rate I'll have seen the entire episode before it ever airs! Just as they usually do, AOL have posted up a preview clip from this week's new episode of Smallville, 'Hidden'. You can watch the clip here.

This scene shows Clark and Chloe discovering that she's not the only one with a penchant for tacking things to the wall ... as well as discovering something else. So now we've seen clips of Clark and Lana, Lana and Lex, Clark and Jor-El, and Clark and Chloe - where's the Clark and Shelby clip?! I wanna see the dog.

"Ask Ausiello" Brings Spoilers

Wed October 12th 2005 @ 10:07AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Ah, it's that lovely time of the week again, when Michael Ausiello over at TVGuide.com shares some shiny new TV spoilers.

"First off, [Smallville] is kicking ass on Thursday nights. We're talking triple-digit gains over what WB had been averaging on Thursday nights last fall. It has also reclaimed its position as WB's most-watched show, a miraculous feat considering its formidable competition on that night. And wait until you see what producers have in store for sweeps. On second thought, don't wait - just keep reading!"

And "just keep reading" is where I stop quoting, as some of what he says is so far into the spoiler territory that I don't even want to risk mentioning it. My spoiler policy is fairly lax in that sometimes I'll allude to what the spoilers are about, sometimes I'll avoid mentioning them altogether, and other times I may just blurt them out without a care in the world ...

So this time I'll just give the link and let you choose whether or not to follow it.

Another 'Hidden' Clip

Wed October 12th 2005 @ 8:43AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

It looks like the WB is going all-out this week! There's now another preview clip from 'Hidden' available over on Yahoo! TV - so head over there to watch it.

This clip isn't quite as "cute" as the other one, but it is a great clip; and extremely spoilery! It features Clark, once again back in the Fortress of Solitude, speaking with Daddy Dearest. These clips are really make me wish it was Thursday already.

Fog Clip During 'Hidden'

Tue October 11th 2005 @ 10:55PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

The WB's Smallville page features an ad for The Fog, along with the phrase "Watch the movie minute during Smallville."

I assume that means that a short clip from The Fog will air during Thursday's episode, but the phrasing is so strange that they could have meant almost anything; maybe there's a movie named "Minute", and they're telling us to "Watch the movie 'Minute' during Smallville"? Or ... no, one silly possibility was enough.

I'd been expecting the WB to air something about The Fog during 'Hidden', so this isn't so surprising to me. I just wish they'd be a little more clear - updating your site to look like a paint splash is no excuse for typing like a four-month-old! Goo goo.

Maggie's Career Looking Up

Tue October 11th 2005 @ 10:15PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Oh, I do so love it when an article allows me to make a title with a silly pun in it ... all will become clear in a moment.

Teen Hollywood interviewed Maggie Grace during her Los Angeles press tour yesterday, and when asked how it was to work alongside Tom, she was practically giddy - but perhaps not for the usual reasons. Besides the expected chorus of "he's a really nice guy," she also noted how happy she was that he's so tall:

"Most actors aren’t tall. I’m 5' 9" ... so I’m usually looking down, and if there are any kissing scenes, they put me down lower. So it was nice [not to have to do that]."

She's as tall as I am! Maybe I'll be considering those heel lifts after all.

Selma Talks Fog on The Early Show

Tue October 11th 2005 @ 4:10PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Selma Blair appeared on CBS' The Early Show this morning to promote The Fog, and snippets of that interview, along with a video clip, are now available over at CBSNews.com.

Of Tom, Selma had this to say:

"He's crazy looking, and he's not some little pretty boy. He's 6"4', gorgeous. Next to my husband, he's the most gorgeous man I've ever seen."

"I have one tiny scene with Tom. It's just meant to be a kind of casual thing: 'Hey, I'm getting coffee ... oh, your girlfriend's in town?' Nice. We kind of had a fling in the past – In the movie, not in real life. I wish – so it was supposed to be just like, 'Oh well, great.' His phone rings; saved by the bell. 'See ya!'"

"But instead he was so gorgeous that for 30 seconds I look like the creepiest girl, 'cause I'm like, 'Heeeyyy ...'"

Poor Selma is besotted.

Optimism from "The Weekend Warrior"

Tue October 11th 2005 @ 1:36PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Coming Soon's weekly "The Weekend Warrior" column features predictions of how well the upcoming week's new movie releases will do, and this week it includes a fairly optimistic prediction for The Fog:

"John Carpenter’s The Fog is the latest horror film to get the remake treatment. Without much in the way of star power and little in the way of marketing, the film should still make second place, if only because of its ultra-wide release."

I beg to differ slightly on the star power, though obviously Tom isn't quite Cruise, and neither Maggie nor Selma are Julia Roberts. On the other hand, I have exactly the same concerns about the relative lack of publicity; the premiere's cancellation was, and is, a fairly worrying sign. I'm still hoping for some other form of publicity in the next day or two. Still, with a wide release at approximately 2750 screens, it's unlikely to be a complete disaster.

Edward Douglas, the article's author, predicts that the movie will take around $11.5 million on its opening weekend - I hope he's right!

PEACE Fund Auction Press Release

Tue October 11th 2005 @ 11:46AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I've just received a press release from John, officially announcing the second PEACE Auction; the auction doesn't start until tomorrow morning at 6:00am PST, so this is just the first of a few reminders that I'll be posting up over the next couple of days! I'm an unapologetic pest when it comes to important issues such as this one. Whether your bids or donations are big or small, every little bit helps. Please give whatever you can:

"What do Star Wars, Clark Kent and the Highlander have to do with helping children affected by the Boxing Day Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita? For Adrian Paul, the answer is 'a lot.' When the tsunami struck Southeast Asia on December 26, 2004, Paul and the producers of Highlander sprang into action with an online auction that raised more than $45,000 in February 2005."

"Paul hopes to match that success with a second online auction that begins Wednesday, October 12, at www.adrianpaulpeace.org – the official website of the PEACE Fund, the charitable entity created by Paul to Protect, Educate, and Aid Children Everywhere."

"'For this auction, I have received an incredible variety of items from a fascinating cross-section of performers,' Paul says. Items include autographed photos and props from Paul's personal collection, along with memorabilia donated by Tom Welling (Smallville), the cast of Charmed, Charisma Carpenter (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Adam Baldwin (Serenity), Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Voyager), Matthew Wood (Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith) and other well-known genre faces."

"Why did so many entertainers step up to the plate? For Paul, the answer is simple. 'It comes from a genuine human desire to do something that will make a difference. And now more than ever, there is a need in the world for those who are able to help others. The bottom line is that children affected by these tragedies need money, and that is something that I can help raise.'"

Starting time for the auction is 6am Pacific Standard Time on October 12th. To make a bid or a donation, or to read more about the PEACE Fund, please visit www.adrianpaulpeace.org.

Who's The WB's "Hottest Hunk"?

Tue October 11th 2005 @ 11:32AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

See, there's that word "hunk" again. I'm still thinking about cheese and crackers ... what's that? I'm crackers? Just a touch.

Anthony contacted me to let me know that Gay.com is holding a poll to find the "Hottest Hunk" on Primetime TV. I probably wouldn't have bothered mentioning it, only Tom's utterly wiping the floor with his WB brethren - he currently has 53% of the vote! That's always nice to see.

"Six weeks, six networks: Each week, we'll run a sizzling slideshow featuring the 10 hottest guys on each network. Voting closes after seven days, and the star with the most votes moves on to the finals. In the end, the winner from each network – FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC, UPN and the WB – will battle for your vote to become prime time's prime hunk."

Thanks again, Anthony! Now excuse me, I'm going back to my Cranberry Cheddar ...

Yet Another New Fog TV Ad

Tue October 11th 2005 @ 11:16AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Last night yet another new trailer for The Fog was shown on TV, and once again, with thanks to Cindy, I have a video clip of it.

The advertisement includes a couple of clips that I don't think were in any of the other trailers, though if I'm remembering correctly, many of them were shown on the Starz On the Set special which aired a few days ago.

'Hidden' Clip at IGN

Tue October 11th 2005 @ 9:04AM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

IGN Filmforce has a new clip from Thursday's episode of Smallville, 'Hidden'. Poor Clark, this must be embarrassing ... and I hate to say it, but the scene's actually kinda cute! How did that happen? While I sit here shaking my head in dismay and pain, you should probably head over there to watch it.

Ignore the lunatic shaking in the corner.

Video of Tom's KTLA Interview

Tue October 11th 2005 @ 8:32AM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

The KTLA website has, luckily, decided to make their interview with Tom available. Tom was as charming as ever, but don't take my word for it ... Watch it for yourself.

Before Tom's segment started, a short clip was shown of him at the Ocean's Twelve premiere in December of last year. Though short, and not really covering any new ground, I did really enjoy this interview; and it chalks up yet another female host who wasn't being very professional around him! How many is that now? Kelly, the four ladies from The View, Kathy ...

Even larger Fog Stills

Mon October 10th 2005 @ 9:56PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

When will the horror ever end?! I really do wish websites would work together to make my life easy, I really do. No sooner do I give the link to a website that has larger copies of the new stills from The Fog, than another one posts them up at a size that is bigger yet again! They should have just posted the largest copies to start with; saved me some typing.

Still, such is life and such is carpal tunnel syndrome. The larger copies can be viewed over on MovieWeb.

Maggie Interviewed by KROQ

Mon October 10th 2005 @ 9:25PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Maggie Grace was interviewed by KROQ's Kevin & Bean this morning, just as Tom was a couple of weeks ago. And just as Tom did, she promoted both her popular TV show (in this case Lost) and her upcoming movie, The Fog. Unlike Tom, however, Maggie was live in the studio. The interview was mostly very good, although one of the comments by either Kevin or Bean – please don't make me try to guess – could be a little offensive to some listeners. But what else is new?

Unsurprisingly, the only thing that I remember is Maggie being asked just how "hunky" Tom is - which under most circumstances would be considered a good question. My only problem is that I'd recently been reminded of Wallace's love of cheese; suddenly a "hunk" is something entirely different. Mmmm, Wensleydale ...

Ah well, I may as well be kind and let everyone listen to Maggie if they'd like to: download now!

Ebert & Roeper Review The Fog

Mon October 10th 2005 @ 4:21PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Next weekend's edition of Ebert & Roeper (check local listings for the exact date, time, and channel) is scheduled to feature their review of The Fog - though the movie will have already been released by the time their review airs, so it may be a touch redundant. Still, I'll be crossing my fingers that they don't viciously tear it apart!

Tom On Today's KTLA Morning News

Mon October 10th 2005 @ 4:04PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Tom was interviewed on this morning's edition of KTLA Morning News to promote The Fog, which comes out this Friday, and Cheaper By The Dozen 2, out December 21st. Unfortunately I couldn't give advance warning as I didn't find out about this until right as the interview started, but Terry was kind enough to let me know a little of what was said. The interview was short and most of it was just plugging the movies, as you'd probably expect.

In a "been there, done that, got the cheap t-shirt" scenario, Tom was once again asked why he doesn't do interviews more often; and his response will be fairly familiar to anyone who has been a fan for a little while: he's usually up in Vancouver and nobody seems to want to travel up there to inteview him! Hmm, maybe he'll give me a plane ticket?! I'll interview him in Vancouver; or anywhere else if it comes to that. My email is always open if Tom wants an interview! I swear I'm not trying to push my luck ...

It appears that Tom may show up on quite a few morning shows like this over the coming week, despite his apparent absence from the daytime and late night talk show schedules. Annoyingly, the morning shows don't often list a schedule at all, so you just have to watch, wait, and hope.

If anyone caught it and can pass along the video clip, please let me know.

PEACE Fund Update

Mon October 10th 2005 @ 2:00AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

As I reported back in August, Tom and his Smallville cast mates recently donated a few items to a charity auction for the Adrian Paul PEACE Fund. Following a slight delay the first auction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the next few days, and on offer will be the autographed Season Four poster seen to your left. An authentic autograph from Tom is still fairly rare (no, the majority of what you'll find on eBay are not real), so it's well worth placing a bid to help a great cause!

Many of the auction details are sketchy at the moment, however I'll post up further information as soon as I get it. Thanks go out once again to John!

Another Fog Banner Ad

Mon October 10th 2005 @ 1:24AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

I'm not quite sure what it is about banner ads, but for some reason I have a love/hate relationship with them. On principal I dislike advertising of any sort if it gets in the way of what I'm doing, yet at the same time I'm oddly happy to see one of Tom's projects getting a much-needed boost - even if it gets in my way.

This is the third banner advertisement that I've seen recently, and it's called "Survival".

"A place he could never leave; A past she could not escape; This place will bring them together; If they can survive; The Fog."

Not very catchy, but it gets the message across pretty well.

Larger Stills from The Fog

Mon October 10th 2005 @ 12:27AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The new stills from The Fog which were released a few days ago are now available at a much larger size over at RopeofSilicon. The already very nice images are just that little bit better when viewed at a larger scale ... and what they hey, here's the link directly to them.

Bloody Beds & ... Hmm, I Got it Backwards

Sun October 9th 2005 @ 1:05PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

VH1.com has a posted up a new feature in honour of The Fog's release next Friday; the feature, titled "Bloody Knives & Killer Beds", lists ten of the most gruesome and/or just plain weird movie deaths. Not that any of the deaths from The Fog are even on the list.

At least the movie is getting some good promotion from TV and internet outlets. Still, a premiere would have been nice - I'll just keep on hoping that Sony have something else planned.

Fogged-Up Trinitron WEGA

Sun October 9th 2005 @ 12:38PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Don't you hate it when your TV screen is all fogged-up? Of course you do. And wouldn't you assume that Sony would know that? Of course you would.

So now they and the nice people over at UGO are offering up the chance for you to win a 27" Trinitron WEGA, a Home Theatre System, and a hat and T-shirt. And it's all straight "Out Of The Fog." Don't you just love mindless wordplay? No, neither do I. So I'll just quit while I'm behind and wish everyone who enters the best of luck!

Tom in TV Week

Sun October 9th 2005 @ 8:21AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

The October 1st - October 7th edition of Vancouver's TV Week magazine included a small picture of Tom on the set of Smallville with upcoming guest-star, Woody Jeffreys. I think it must be from the shoot for 'Exposed' as that's the only upcoming episode I can think of where Clark might have a reason for wearing a suit!

"Vancouver actor Woody Jeffreys was spied shooting a recent guest appearance for the highly successful Superman yarn Smallville. Jeffreys was spotted taking a break with series star Tom Welling high atop the roof of a downtown building. Kind of fitting for Superman, don't you think?"

Many thanks to TrevorH from the KryptonSite Message Forums for the scan!

No Talk Shows For Tom?

Sun October 9th 2005 @ 6:14AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Unless something changes between now and Friday, Tom doesn't seem to be doing any talk shows or promotional work of that sort for The Fog. Which disappoints me, though I'm sure I'll get over it. Sony may have a secret weapon up their sleeve to help promote the movie, but I'm not exactly counting on that.

In lieu of Tom, we'll all just have to make do for the time being with his co-stars, Maggie Grace and Selma Blair. They're bound to talk about him a little bit, right? I hope. So to the list of appearances those two will be making next week:

  • Selma Blair - The Early Show - CBS - Tuesday October 11th @ 7:00am EST (Thanks Cindy!)
  • Maggie Grace - Jimmy Kimmel Live - ABC - Tuesday October 11th @ 12:05am EST
  • Maggie Grace - The View - ABC - Thursday October 13th @ 10:00am EST
  • Selma Blair - The Late Show With David Letterman - CBS - Friday October 14th @ 11:30pm EST
Check your local listings to confirm the dates and times.

The Fog Premiere Update

Sat October 8th 2005 @ 11:20AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

On August 9th I reported that The Fog's world premiere was scheduled for this coming Monday, October 10th, at the Mann Village Theatre in Los Angeles.

However, quite oddly, all information regarding the premiere has since been pulled. That could mean a number of things: the obvious one is that the premiere may have been cancelled, although that seems fairly unlikely; another option is that it has been rescheduled; then there's the possibility that the premiere will still take place on Monday, just as it was planned to, and the promotional material has been removed for a reason that I can't begin to fathom.

I guess we'll know soon enough.

Edit: I finally got a response from the "people in the know" (a.k.a. the theatre) and it seems the premiere has in fact been cancelled. I'm not sure what to think right now; let's hope that Sony have got something else planned to promote the movie.

Slightly Older Radio Interview

Sat October 8th 2005 @ 10:41AM - James - Tom Welling - 13 Comments

Three interviews from a few weeks ago just weren't enough, by the looks of it. I've now been given an old radio interview from September 2003, when Tom was promoting Smallville's third season; the problem – if you can call it a problem – is that I don't know which station it was originally aired on, nor who the interviewers were. All I know is that I've never heard it before!

Edit: Thanks to everyone who helped out! I now know that the interview was with Steve & Vicki from Atlanta's Star94 - and both a better quality copy of that old interview, from September 23rd, 2003, and a more recent interview from September 28th of this year (so he did at least four interviews on that day, then), are available on the Star94 website.

Tom's a klutz who drops his telephone.

More Magazine Articles

Thu October 6th 2005 @ 10:46AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Not very surprisingly, The Fog is featured quite heavily in a number of magazines right now - particularly those produced by the Starlog Group.

The October 2005 and November 2005 issues of both Starlog, and its sister magazine, Fangoria, have each included (or in Fangoria's case, are scheduled to include) articles about the movie. Though the Fangoria articles seem to have thus far been far more in-depth and interesting, in my opinion. Your mileage may vary on that one.

Starlog (issue #340) should be out now; Fangoria (issue #248) will be out around October 25th.

Smallville is Refocused

Thu October 6th 2005 @ 7:36AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

The Arizona Daily Star has a new article up about the returned focus of Smallville on its most important aspect: the mythology of the Superman story.

In one of the more notable paragraphs from the article, author Dave Mason has a few nice words to say about Tom:

"The key character remains the future Superman, Clark, still played with realism by the talented Welling. Each season, Welling seems more comfortable with the character, and I have a hunch he's learning from the show's two best cast members, John Schneider and Annette O'Toole, who have given new depth to Jonathan and Martha Kent, Clark's parents."

It's always good to see some nice comments about Tom's acting.

100 Minutes of Terror!

Thu October 6th 2005 @ 6:34AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

That title would work for both The Fog and Cheaper By The Dozen 2, 'cause let's face it, children are scary. But in this case the terror I'm referring to is of the Foggy sort. Columbia has finally announced that the movie will be 100 minutes long, a.k.a. 1 hour and forty minutes.

So it's a fairly average length for a horror movie: just long enough to scare the heebie jeebies out of you, but not quite long enough to render you catatonic.

Short Review of The Fog Graphic Novel

Thu October 6th 2005 @ 6:19AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Staci Wilson over at About.com's Horror section has posted up a short review of The Fog's tie-in graphic novel, which should be released soon. You can still pre-order it if you'd like to.

The review gives the book 3.5 stars out of 5. Staci notes that while the interior art and the story itself are both very well done, the book's cover isn't particularly eye-catching. If you're judging a book by its cover – which you shouldn't do, but sometimes it's really, really tempting – this one may fall at the first hurdle. Still, the story apparently has plenty of gore in it. Which, um, won't appeal to a lot of people. Read Staci's full review.

AOL's 'Mortal' Preview

Thu October 6th 2005 @ 6:07AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

It's that time of the week again. AOL has posted up their preview clip from this week's new episode of Smallville, 'Mortal'. You can view that clip by following this link. It's a very, very spoilery clip (as they usually are), so if you'd rather wait the few hours until the episode airs tonight ... I guess you should.

Four New Fog Stills

Thu October 6th 2005 @ 5:29AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

A large number of new stills from The Fog have now been released by Columbia Pictures, and four of them feature Tom!

Those new images can be found at Yahoo! Movies. Or for a slightly larger look at three of them, head over to About.com Movies. Eight days; time to start twiddling my thumbs.

Images from 'Aqua'

Wed October 5th 2005 @ 5:58PM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

The WB has made available a few images from 'Aqua', the fourth episode of Smallville's fifth season. Unfortunately only a few of them feature Tom, however one in particular more than makes up for the lacking numbers. I think I'm going to like this episode. Soggy people.

The pictures can be viewed over at KryptonSite.

Cheaper 2 Poster & Tagline

Wed October 5th 2005 @ 8:17AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I've managed to get hold of a larger copy of the poster for Tom's other upcoming movie, Cheaper By The Dozen 2, and the poster contains the first tagline for the movie:

"Same Big Family ... Even Bigger Adventure."

I really, really hope that's true. I was more than a touch let down by the first movie, as I'm sure most people already know.

Premiere Article Online

Wed October 5th 2005 @ 7:17AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The full article from Premiere magazine, (I mentioned it a few weeks ago) is now available online - "Play Misty For Me". And yes, it does say "Deadly Dampness". Trust me, it's funny if you're twelve. Or mentally twelve.

Fog Site Has Been Updated Again

Wed October 5th 2005 @ 6:37AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

I think I'm a little behind, but when you're not even at home I guess that can't be helped. Slow connections make for a precarious ability to update!

The Fog's official website has finally been updated with cast and crew bios and a few more little details. The production notes in the "Boat Tours" section are especially interesting; it was already well known that Tom had a very busy schedule during the first couple of weeks of shooting, but this is ridiculous!

"One week we were shooting nights, and Tom finished working for us early Monday morning, around 7 a.m., showered, got dressed and went to work on Smallville. That's rough."

Zombie!Clark sounds fun. Zombie!Nick possibly not so much.

The site also lists a few upcoming promotions for the movie, including a preview clip which will air at 9:00pm EST on October 13th, on Sci-Fi. Though I do wonder why they'd air it during Dungeons & Dragons when they're airing the original Fog a couple of hours later; if it's the prime time factor, why not just air The Fog a little earlier? It's not exactly a terrifying movie. I'd probably be more terrified of watching Dungeons & Dragons, now that I think about it ...

New Fog TV Ad

Tue October 4th 2005 @ 12:55PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Another new TV advertisement for The Fog has recently been airing across the United States, most recently last night, during Fox's Prison Break.

Thanks once again to Cindy (whom I am officially naming an honorary member of the TomWelling.org team, even though she doesn't know it yet) I have that new ad, which you can download here. Tom and Maggie Grace are finally mentioned by name in this ad, which makes a really nice change. It's definitely my favourite of the ads that have aired so far.

Cheaper By The Dozen 2 Official Site!

The official site for Cheaper By The Dozen 2 has been launched (kinda, although there's nothing to really look at yet). Amusingly – to me, though I daresay not to 20th Century Fox – the address is not the one advertised at the end of the movie's teaser trailer: the originally advertised address, cheaperbythedozen2.com, is seemingly owned by somebody already! Let's see if Fox can wrench it away from the current owner in time to use it.

Just as exciting is the fact that Apple Trailers now has the trailer in a format that more people are likely to be able to watch - and download. Plus the quality's a bit better than we've been able to see previously.

Starz Goes Behind the Scenes of The Fog

Sun October 2nd 2005 @ 9:34AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Starz' On the Set went behind the scenes of The Fog yesterday (the full schedule of repeats can be found here), and thanks to Cindy I have the the video of it. This file's big, and almost eight minutes long, so please only download it once! Anyway, here's the clip.

It's in Apple Quicktime MOV format, as always; it won't download if you have a firewall due to hotlink protection, so you'll need to configure the firewall to "trust" TomWelling.org - or you could just turn the firewall off completely, but that's risky; and just one more time for good measure: please, please only download it once. I don't want to kill the site's bandwidth limit on the second day of the month.

This is also as good a time as there'll ever be to add a reminder about something - it's something that I'd rather not have to mention, however the old adage about "one bad apple" is unfortunately very true where a small number of people are concerned: if you'd like to share any of the content that's available on this website, please just point people here; failing that, at least ask me before reposting anything somewhere else. Most of the time I'll say yes if you just take the time to ask.

A Few Site Updates

Sat October 1st 2005 @ 9:05PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

I've finally gotten around to doing a few small updates - I'm always bogged down with the news and real life stuffies these days.

I added some fan art by Carolyn, Miriam, and Caitlin, and I've added two new affiliates, James Lafferty World and Dark Spike.
