Fog Ads to the Extreme

Fri September 30th 2005 @ 6:00PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

A few weeks ago many of you may have noticed ads for The Brothers Grimm taking over a large number of the more popular movie websites - their background images looked like parchment paper, their banners featured the faces of Matt Damon and Heath Ledger ... etc. and so forth, you get the picture.

The "skinning" of websites seems to be a new – and fairly successful, I might ad ... erm, add – advertising tool, and today TV.com has joined the ranks with a huge ad for The Fog which covers the entire page! You'll need to switch off any ad-blockers before you can see it, though. It makes me wonder whether more websites will follow suit over the coming two weeks.

This site's already dark and foggy, of course. Speaking of, I really must get a move on with that redesign I've been planning for more than a year.

Discuss 'Arrival'

Fri September 30th 2005 @ 12:28AM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

With 'Arrival' now firmly underway in some areas, I'm sure many of you will want to discuss it with other like-minded Tom Welling fans. And luckily for me, Bency has started an 'Arrival' Discussion over on Fan Forum that I can provide a link to.

If you've already seen the episode, please give your reviews, opinions, or whatever else you feel like. If you haven't seen it yet, but don't mind spoilers, why not jump in to the discussion as well? And of course, your comments are also welcome right here!

Teeny Tiny Veronica Mars Update

Thu September 29th 2005 @ 11:59PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

It's not that I don't have better (Read: much more boring, but immeasurably more important.) things to be doing, it's just that I couldn't resist the temptation. Here for your viewing please is Logan Echolls wishing that Tom could play him in a TV movie of his life: complete with "whooshing" Superman sounds at the end!

Tom Mentioned on Veronica Mars

Thu September 29th 2005 @ 1:49PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

According to KryptonSite, Tom was mentioned on last night's second season premiere of Veronica Mars. Now granted, I've never seen the show. And thus I don't even know who Logan is. But if he says that Tom should play him in a movie of his life, who am I to argue?

Veronica Mars' creator, Rob Thomas, mentioned the, er, mention, in a new interview with Zap2it:

"There is a bit in the first episode in which Logan is crossing his fingers, hoping they'll get Tom Welling to play him in the movie."

Tom would be great at playing many people. But I still don't know Logan.

Everywhere's Gone Smallville Crazy!

Thu September 29th 2005 @ 1:37PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

The reviews are coming in thick and fast for 'Arrival', tonight's season five premiere of Smallville.

From Now Playing:

"Despite the disappointingly circuitous route it took to get there, the fourth season ended on a high note, and it appears as though the fifth season will carry on that momentum. The premiere offers a lot of satisfying answers, but also presents some new questions that hopefully set the tone for the year."

Rating: A

From Eclipse Magazine:

"Is Smallville back on track? One episode isn’t enough to really make that call, but the groundwork is definitely being laid for that to be the case - which is good for the show as it opens in one of the most hotly contested timeslots in primetime."

Rating: B-

And from Hercules at Ain't It Cool News:

"The good news for me and those like me? You don’t have to have seen any part of season four to enjoy the season-five opener. It does a swell job of catching you up on who now knows Clark is Superboy, what Chloe is doing [mumble spoiler mumble], where the Lex-Clark relationship stands, and any other questions that might niggle at you."

Rating: 3 out of 5

And the verdict is all but unanimous: though far from flawless, this may be the best episode in quite a long time. And it's now only hours away! And I've just realised that I've posted the exact same reviews as Craig! I could have saved myself some time and pointed everyone over there.

Another Interview!

Wed September 28th 2005 @ 9:01PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I was told by Robyne that Tom would also be interviewed by Chad Pitt, on XL 106.7 in Orlando, Florida, at some point tonight. Tom's segment aired at around 5:00pm, and luckily I caught it. I'm sure everyone will want to listen to that interview, so go get it!

Naughty Tom. When asked which power he'd like, he said X-Ray vision. And when asked whether he'd stare at Lana, Lois, or Chloe, he said he couldn't choose and would have to look at all three of them! Tut tut. Chad told him that was a cop-out. Which it was.

Now I just have to find a willing vict - volunteer to transcribe this one. I've been awake for 36 hours. Need sleep.

Thanks go out to Robyne!

Tom On KROQ

Wed September 28th 2005 @ 5:05PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I was told that Tom didn't say anything in his interview with Kevin & Bean that was anywhere near as cute and funny as the Eric & Kathy soundbites. And that's true, but it's still a pretty good interview. It does suffer perhaps from being a bit longer than it needed to be, though. Most of the interview is just chit-chat by the hosts.

Thanks once again to Mark, who passed along the short clip from yesterday's show (and it's not Mark Welling, before anyone else asks that particular question), I have Tom's interview - it runs for just under eight minutes. You can download that here.

Thanks to Dawn I have a transcript of the interview, which you can read here.

Tom Speaks to Eric & Kathy

Wed September 28th 2005 @ 2:33PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

Tom's interview with Eric & Kathy aired on WTMX 101.9 in Chicago about ten minutes ago ... it's a really good interview, but I'm a little too tired to transcribe. So instead, here's the audio clip. Highlights of the show will also be repeated at 9:00pm tonight.

The clip is around five minutes long, and pretty funny. Tom said he was unloading the dishwasher.

He was also asked about IMDb's "facts", and joked that the story about him saving a mugging victim isn't true - he was the one having his purse stolen! Scary. Eric and Tom were also starting rumours about Bonnie Hunt being a sexual predator. Not that I think she'll mind.

Very, very funny stuff. I hope everyone enjoys it - and comments are welcome, of course!

Thanks also go out to Dee and Jaime for offering to help with transcribing. Dee apparently has fingers that can move faster than Speedy Gonzales. Though I didn't expect a transcript, just as I was typing this a transcript landed in my inbox anyway. Thanks, Dee!

Without further ado, here's a transcript of Tom's interview with Eric & Kathy.

Preview Scenes from The Fog

Wed September 28th 2005 @ 12:17PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Selma Blair, who stars alongside Tom in Sony's upcoming remake of The Fog, will be appearing at the Los Angeles Comic Book and Sci Fi Convention on Sunday, October 9th, at 12:30pm. She'll be speaking about the movie, and previewing a few scenes.

That one may be worth a look for anyone who can get there.

Four More Clips from WB58

Wed September 28th 2005 @ 10:03AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

The number four seems to be pretty popular right now when it comes to video clips - which is odd, because Smallville is starting its fifth season. I think it's only fair that we get five video clips. Four is nice and all, but five? Five would be much better. Not that I'm greedy. Still, I rarely get what I want . But to the point, WB58 has yet more clips of Tom which were recorded back at the TCA's in July. There's not that much new information in them, though.

Of most interest to me are Tom's comments about the planning that will have to go into the episode he directs:

"The idea of me directing is a lot bigger than just me. I'm in 93.4% of every episode, so in order for me to get ready to direct the episode, I have to not be in the episode before or after it. Or at least be in them in very small amounts. So there's a lot of preparation which starts now, and it's months away."

So no pressure then, eh, Tom? This is why I'm not an actor or director - I'll stick to the easy job running a website, thanks. It's not like I've been awake all night to make sure I catch Tom's radio Interviews this morning. And it's not like I've done all-nighters with alarming regularity. Noooo, this is an easy job. Honestly.

I've decided not to upload the clips this time, as I want to conserve the bandwidth for the afore-mentioned radio interviews. That's assuming I get hold of clips of them; keep those fingers crossed!

Four More 'Arrival' Clips

Wed September 28th 2005 @ 2:05AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Craig has posted the links to four more clips from 'Arrival', over at KryptonSite. The first shows Clark and Chloe, in the hospital; the second, Clark and Lex in the wrecked Kent House - it's from the same scene as last week's clip from AOL; the third is of Clark having a heart-to-heart with Martha and Jonathan; the fourth and final clip is of Lana and Clark, in the hospital.

The Quicktime files aren't working correctly for me, but maybe it's just my bad luck. At least the Windows Media and Real Media files seem to work.

There are now just under 48 hours to go until Smallville's fifth season premiere. Are we all excited yet?

Tom On The Radio

Tue September 27th 2005 @ 5:29PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

It looks like Tom will be doing the radio rounds tomorrow, promoting the fifth season of Smallville ... and possibly The Fog too.

For those in Southern California, KROQ 106.7's Kevin & Bean will be interviewing him at some point during their 4.5 hour show, starting at 5.30am. Thanks to Mark, I have a clip of the announcement of Tom's interview, which you can download here. If you're in Chicago, Eric & Kathy on WTMX 101.9 The Mix, will also be interviewing Tom at some point between 5:30am and 10:00am. You can listen to Eric & Kathy in a live webcast through their website, and a podcast should be available later in the day.

When Tom has done radio interviews in the past, they've generally taken place at around 8:00am. I imagine tomorrow will be no different, so some time after 7:30am seems most likely.

Of course if you hear about any other interviews, or if you can send along transcripts or clips of the two I've just mentioned, please contact me.

E! News Clip

Tue September 27th 2005 @ 5:27AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

After being informed last night that Tom was shown on the E! News Special after all, I had to find the clip of it! And now that I have, I'm laughing, which wasn't an expected response ...

I'm laughing over the fact that Tom wasn't even on screen long enough for the voiceover to be completed; instead of "Handsome Hunks", we get to hear "Handsome Hu ..." Thanks once again to Cindy, here is the (1-second!) clip for you to see and hear it for yourself. It's a nice little clip from last year's Teen Choice Awards, but still. It's so short! I suppose I should add that the voiceover did carry on to the following clip - I'm just not entirely sure whether Mischa Barton will appreciate being referred to as "... nks."

Second Part of Now Playing Article

Tue September 27th 2005 @ 2:16AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The second part of Now Playing's interview with Al Gough (I wrote about the first part here) is now available.

According to Al, Clark will "Get into Metropolis, and then when [he's] not in a small town where [he] can just zip away, what are the complications that arise from that? ... He's going to start to realize that he has other responsibilities other than the town of Smallville."

And, um, Al has a potty mouth when discussing the future of the show, but given what his potty mouth has to say, I think I can forgive him:

"I say seven seasons. Certainly in our case suddenly you’re bumping up against ‘Why the f*ck isn't he putting on the suit?’ I say that’s probably a good number. Will it end with him putting on the suit? And Lex making that last step to evil? Yeah, absolutely."

Awww, Tom will be Superman after all. I'm getting warm and fuzzies right now.

Tom in Wizard

Tue September 27th 2005 @ 12:55AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Tom is featured in the new issue of Wizard magazine (#169). In the article he talks about Smallville and The Fog, though there's nothing really new in there about either project. Most of the article reads like a rehash of what he said at The Fog's press conference in May, the TV Critics in July, and a few other random interviews that I'm feeling too lazy to remember right now.

Tom does mention that he's wanted to direct an episode of Smallville since the very first season, but he also notes that he wanted to wait until he was asked to do it - and is glad that he wasn't asked sooner, as he's not sure he could have managed it without a few years of experience. Ever humble.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I'm sure his directorial debut will do everyone proud!

Despite the relative lack of new material, it is, nonetheless, a fairly interesting read (it's Tom, after all), and you can purchase the magazine from the Wizard Universe Store if you have trouble finding it elsewhere.

Catch the Original Fog

Mon September 26th 2005 @ 11:27PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

My good friend, T (I call her T, she calls me J ... trust me, it's cute), has told me that she watched the original, 1980 version of The Fog over the weekend, on the Sci-Fi Channel. Better still, for those who missed it the movie is apparently scheduled to be repeated on October 13th, at 11:30pm EST. Whilst not one of John Carpenter's best movies, it's still really creepy and atmospheric. Especially if you watch it late at night, with the lights turned low. Oops, now I'm scaring myself; I don't like the dark.

I'm not sure if the date is deliberate – it's only one day before the updated version is released in cinemas – but it's still a really cool tie-in.

The Fog Is a "Coming Attraction"

Mon September 26th 2005 @ 4:23PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Now, see, I normally wouldn't post something quite this pointless. But regardless, The Fog (two weeks to the premiere, 18 days to the cinema release) is one of TheMovieBox.net's "Coming Attractions" on their homepage. And that's about all there is to tell about that. It's such a small thing that I'm almost regretting mentioning it.

Cheaper 2 on Entertainment Tonight

Mon September 26th 2005 @ 6:14AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

So it's a misnomer, because it's not really entertainment tonight at all. It was entertainment three days ago. But things like that can't be helped.

Last Friday's edition of Entertainment Tonight included a few brief clips from Cheaper by the Dozen 2's trailer, during the "Leonard's Picks" segment, and thanks to Cindy (Whom I'm quickly beginning to think there may actually be three of, as one person shouldn't be able to do this much by themself!) I have a vid of it. It's only about 15 seconds long, and I'm sure most of us have already seen the trailer anyway; but if you haven't, this short snippet may be of some use - so download it already!

E! News Erratum

Mon September 26th 2005 @ 4:44AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Apparently the E! News Special did show Tom momentarily, and with luck I'll have a clip of it at some point.

The clip of Tom was only about two seconds long, but still. I don't mind admitting that I was wrong when I said he probably wouldn't be featured at all. Mea culpa.

If You Go Down to the Woods Today

Mon September 26th 2005 @ 2:16AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

You may see 12 Baker children, if the Cheaper by the Dozen 2 trailer is anything to go by.

And speaking of that, the trailer is apparently now being shown in some cinemas, ahead of the newly-released Corpse Bride. Unfortunately I don't have the slightest clue which theatres will be showing the trailer, so ... err ... I guess I'm out of things to say.

Win Tickets To See The Fog

Sun September 25th 2005 @ 1:05AM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

Giant Magazine is currently running a competition to win tickets for an advanced screening of The Fog, on October 12th. The screenings will take place in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington D.C., Dallas, Atlanta, and Detroit.

Good luck to everyone who enters!

Worldwide Release Dates Foggy Style

Sat September 24th 2005 @ 2:48PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Sony Pictures has recently unveiled a huge list of worldwide release dates for The Fog - so huge that I don't think I should list them myself for fear of dying before the job is completed! Fine, fine, I exaggerate. I'll be listing them shortly ... Anyway, the German's can find out when they'll be able to see Nebel Des Grauens; the Brazilians, A Névoa; and the lucky ol' Brits, Aussies, and Americans, just get to watch The Fog. How entirely typical.

If you don't already know when the movie is going to be released in your country, this release dates list should tell you. So enjoy!

Another Smallville Trailer

Fri September 23rd 2005 @ 4:13AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

During tonight's (or this morning's, depending on your time zone) repeat of the season four finale, 'Commencement', the WB aired yet another trailer for the now fast-approaching fifth season of Smallville. Just under seven days. I won't embarrass myself by screaming.

The trailer is perhaps the most spoilery one yet, and just in case you missed it you can already view it on TheWB.com. The WB's website seems to be a bit glitchy right now, and for some reason the video player doesn't always open correctly - the video is there, so just keep trying. If all else fails, copy the link and paste it into your address bar. Beyond that I don't have a clue what to suggest.

Special thanks go to Cindy, for capping the trailer for me; even though I didn't end up using her vid, it's the thought that counts! Also, thanks to Serene for the link to the WB's version.

'Arrival' Preview Clip

Thu September 22nd 2005 @ 9:16PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Just like in previous years, it seems that AOL will be posting preview clips of the upcoming Smallville episodes during season five - and today they have a clip from next week's fifth season premiere, 'Arrival'. Head on over to AOL to view it.

Just in case we could forget, I'll reiterate: One week to go!

International Variant Fog Trailer

Thu September 22nd 2005 @ 3:55PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Sony UK has a slightly modified trailer for The Fog online at its previews page. The trailer features a new voiceover, but other than that ... eh, not really different.

First Cheaper By The Dozen 2 Trailer & Poster

Thu September 22nd 2005 @ 3:37PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

AOL's Moviefone now has the first teaser trailer for Cheaper by the Dozen 2, which can be found here. In addition to that, they also have a very small copy of the first poster.

I'll write something a bit more in-depth later, when I have some more time. For now, thanks go out to phoephoe for passing along the link!

Possible E! News Coverage

Wed September 21st 2005 @ 3:51PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

An E! News Special is airing this Friday, September 23rd, covering US Weekly's "Young Hollywood Hot 20", which is featured in this week's issue of the magazine. As I mentioned in passing yesterday, the issue contains a very small segment about Tom; because of this the E! News Special is possibly one to watch.

I say possibly, because unfortunately the chances of Tom being heavily featured appear extremely slim, for two reasons:

  1. Tom wasn't in the actual "Hot 20", he was just mentioned in a sidebar about young stars of the WB
  2. The special is, according to its description, primarily showing coverage of last Friday's "Young Hollywood Hot 20" party. Which Tom didn't attend
Anything is possible, and there's always a chance that Tom may be briefly mentioned. Just don't get your hopes up.

Vid of New Fog TV Ad

Wed September 21st 2005 @ 11:56AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I mentioned this a few days ago, but things got in the way and I wasn't able to do anything about it sooner; such is life.

Thanks to Cindy, who seems to be monopolising the "help James" quota right about now, I have a clip of a recent TV ad for The Fog. You can download that here. The ad confirms that the movie is definitely PG-13, so I assume that in the UK it will get either a 12A or 15 certificate. The tag line on the trailer is the same as can be found on the "Sins" banner that I posted a few weeks back; which causes me to beg the question of whether there may be two different TV ads doing the rounds, just as there are two different banner ads. Please let me know if you see any other variants of the ad during the next few weeks.

Now would also be a good time to let everyone know that some email services – Earthlink, to name just one – don't seem to like receiving emails from me. I get whatever it is that you've sent to me, however my reply disappears into the ether! I promise I'm not ignoring you.

More Season Five Stills

Tue September 20th 2005 @ 10:42PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Craig has just posted three new stills from 'Arrival', Smallville's fifth season premiere, two of which feature Tom. He was also kind enough to pass those images to me, and as I'm feeling generous today (it could be the head cold messing up my usually grumpy demeanour) I think I'll post my favourite one at slightly higher quality than I usually do.

Clark and ... hmm, someone, in a chilly place. Beware the spoilery picture. And why does Clark have what looks like a plaster on his hand? He's indestructible! Tom needs to be more careful - cutting yourself when you're playing Superman is definitely not Method.

The Fog in Fangoria #247

Tue September 20th 2005 @ 6:34PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, the new issue (#247) of Fangoria features an in-depth article about The Fog - which is now less than four weeks from release, by the way! The article contains two new stills featuring Tom, and a lot of interesting quotes from the movie's cast and crew. Though not much from Tom, as I've come to expect.

Tom is mentioned in the opening paragraph, however, in a sentence that takes me to a happy place: "Actor Tom Welling sits on a curb, relaxing with his two dogs." Let's all say a collective awwww!

Luckily for us, Tom did have something interesting things to say about how he handled his role in the movie:

"The most important element for me to get across in this is suspense. ... I don't have much experience, but I believe in this genre it becomes even more important."

Thanks go out once again to Cindy, for the scans. I'm really behind on things right now due to yet another illness (You'd think these things would give me a break, but nooo!), so a kick in the behind – and a bunch of magazine scans – are just what I need to get myself moving. Though I'd be lying if I said the news won't be a bit slower around here for the next few weeks.

Hmm, I'm already typing so I may as well add that Tom has a very, very brief mention in the current US Weekly. He's pictured alongside fellow WB stars Jared Padlocki (oops, that's wrong), Jensen Ackles, and others ... it's not worthy of its own news story as it's really just an old, tiny picture, with Tom's name and show (that young Superman thing - I forget the name) next to it.

This post was long.

More Interviews with Al

Sun September 18th 2005 @ 4:02AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

According to KryptonSite there are three more interviews with Al Gough available, though only two focus on the upcoming season of Smallville.

Those interviews can be found at TV Filter and UGO. It's interesting to note that both feature information about the series' potential length: in the first, Al states that the show may last seven seasons, but no more than that; in the second, however, he explains that the cast are already signed for seven years if the WB chooses to keep the show on the air for that long.

And here I was, hoping the show would end soon so that I'm not kept quite this busy.

First Fog TV Spot

Sat September 17th 2005 @ 8:41AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Last night's premiere of the new CBS show, Threshold, featured what I assume to be the first TV promo for Tom's upcoming movie, The Fog. I'm sure the commercial will be repeated, so keep an eye out for that because it features some new shots of Tom.

Thanks go out to Jaime and Cindy for the tip about the ad! With luck I'll have a vid of it up later today.

More Advertising of The Fog

Thu September 15th 2005 @ 8:57PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Sony Pictures has just begun another round of online advertising for The Fog, this time with an email message encouraging recipients to pay a visit to the film's newly-updated official website. There's nothing new about the film itself in the email, however it does contain a new, simple tagline, which I kinda like:

"Relax. Explore. Take a Step Back in Time ... Escape The Fog."

It almost makes me want to pay a visit to Antonio Bay. I like being scared.

More at TV Guide

Thu September 15th 2005 @ 9:45AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

There's yet another new (and mucho spoilery) interview with Al Gough, this time at TV Guide Online.

Apparently Al wishes that Smallville was still in its original timeslot at 9:00pm on Tuesdays, though "That being said, am I upset to be out of the Lost-America's Next Top Model vortex? Not really. [Laughs] Lost was sort of our left jab, and then Top Model went right to the gut."

Al also answers a certain Clark and Lana question which has been on the lips (or typing fingers) of many a fan over the past few weeks ... but I'm going to shut up on that and not give away any of what he said. If you want to know, read the article.

Thanks to Cindy for passing along this link.

A Different Kind of Premiere

Thu September 15th 2005 @ 9:27AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I'm assuming that Tom will be at the world premiere of The Fog in just over three weeks' time; however we don't need to wait that long to see him in a Premiere of another sort - the October issue of Premiere magazine. In an article entitled "Play Misty for Me", (Subtitle: "Tom Welling weathers some deadly dampness ..." Yes, that's the real subtitle.) Tom, err, talks about being a scaredy-cat. Or something to that effect:

"Tom Welling, best known for playing a teenage Superman on TV's Smallville, is stashing the superpowers for his first leading role in a movie. He's portraying a guy who is ... well, afraid of the weather."

Well yes. I imagine I'd be afraid of the weather, too, if it had weapon-wielding zombie-sailors living in it. Though Tom's comment about his work on Cheaper by the Dozen 2 is the part that amuses me the most:

"That was kind of a horror film as well, working with all those kids," he says. "Maybe I do need to branch out."

Children can be monsters.

As if it wasn't Flashy Enough

Thu September 15th 2005 @ 3:29AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

You go to bed and nothing's different. You wake up and you're toiling away, catching up with numerous new things. But hey, I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it. Somewhat.

As if The Fog's official site wasn't already chock-full of things to look at, three new sections have been added: Explore the Lighthouse, Explore the Boat, and Explore the Town Hall. The three new sections recreate (and show portions of) scenes from the film ... be a terrified Stevie Wayne, trapped in the Lighthouse; watch a terrified Spooner, trapped on the Boat; and watch the town's founders pillage and burn in the Town Hall.

I get the feeling that we're supposed to be scared.

You won't be able to see the new sections if your browser has cached the old page, but unfortunately I can't really help with that. Try deleting your cached files.

Stop Gawking!

Thu September 15th 2005 @ 3:08AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Actually no, don't. Here's another funny little blurb about The Fog, from Metro Weekly:

"'Scary' movie of the season #3. Can it get any better than John Carpenter's original version with Adrienne Barbeau? We sure hope so. At least this one has Smallville's Tom Welling to gawk at."

They have the right idea ... though lest we forget, he's a good actor as well as a pretty face. And I would dare anyone to challenge me on that! For real, challenge extended. If anyone emails me their thoughts on why Tom cannot act, I'll post them up here for rebuffment – I know that's not a real word, but can I really be blamed for taking any opportunity to slot in the word "buff"? There's a method to my madness, as well as to my destruction of the English language! – and (if I'm feeling cruel) a little ridicule. If I can be bothered. Though I am lazy, so don't count on those emails ever seeing the light of day.

Updates at TheWB.com

Thu September 15th 2005 @ 3:00AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

How's that for an understatement and a half? The entire site is different ... go take a look for yourself. And, err, I don't think I like it. Change can be good. Sometimes. But not this time.

Anyway, if you're anything like me and having trouble navigating around the new site (the layout's weird, I couldn't help it), here's a helping hand to find what you'll probably want to look at first: Smallville's show page, and Tom's actor page.

More Pictures from The Fog at JoBlo

Thu September 15th 2005 @ 2:44AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

None of them feature Tom. (And as such I'm not even entirely sure why I'm posting this ... ah, just woken up again. That's probably the reason, I'm completely insensible for the first hour after I wake up!) Nonetheless JoBlo.com has a few more images from The Fog.

Or are they new? I think a few of them are already on The Fog's official site, and I believe some of them are also in the myriad of magazines that will be coming out over the next few weeks. Maybe I'll call them newish.

Another Image in TV Guide

Wed September 14th 2005 @ 2:06AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The new issue of TV Guide features yet another picture of Clark and Chloe from the fast-approaching fifth season of Smallville, and Craig over at KryptonSite has a scan of the magazine!

I've just woken up (It's 2:00am ... I keep odd hours) so I'll keep this short: big hands.

The Fog's UK Release Pushed Back Again?

Mon September 12th 2005 @ 12:28PM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

Though most everywhere else is listing The Fog's UK release date as February 23rd, 2006, Sony Pictures has announced the date as February 24th, one day later. This causes me to beg the question of whether or not February 23rd was ever the correct date; the 23rd will be a Thursday, whilst the 24th will (obviously, as it's only one day later) be a Friday and would seem to make much more sense for a movie release.

Of course this would mean that my fellow Brits and I are going to have to wait just that little bit longer than we already were. Oh joyful day.

MarkWelling.com

Mon September 12th 2005 @ 3:20AM - James - Mark Welling - 0 Comments

I should never be allowed outside in public, because I am, it has to be said, a little wacko. Take what I've just done, for example.

Not only have I broken my own self-imposed rule about not following the careers of both Tom and Mark (I broke that a long time ago, of course), but now I've gone and set up an entirely separate site for Mark! Well, I say separate. The news is just pulled from TomWelling.org's database so they're still conjoined in that respect. But hey, it exists. And it may (or may not) be the very first fan site for Mark. Who knows?

If you're interested, pay the site a visit. If you're not? What can I tell ya - don't pay it a visit.

Tom Mentioned on The WB Inside & Out

Mon September 12th 2005 @ 12:33AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Unlike last year's fall season preview show, The WB Insider, this year's show, called The WB Inside & Out, didn't feature much about Smallville. Tom did get a brief mention, but it was really just a run-through of his official WB bio, set to a backing shot of promo images. That's right, no proper interview this time around ...

The show may not have aired yet in all areas, and it may be repeated in some others, so check your local listings. I'm not sure that it's worth posting up a clip of this one - though before I could make that decision I would need to have a clip of it in the first place! Which I don't. So please contact me if you have a video of what was said about Tom. I'll probably post it just for the sake of posting it. I'm odd like that.

Two More Clips at WB58

Mon September 12th 2005 @ 12:13AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

The WB58 website has posted two more short clips of Tom, in addition to the five that were posted a few days ago. All seven clips can be viewed here, in WMV streaming format. I previously posted a link to download the first five clips in Quicktime format, and you can find that in the archive. Plus, as you might have expected from me, you can also download the two new clips.

In the first clip Tom talks about his favourite movies and music, and his real-life heroes: "I like all movies. I love action movies, I love dramas, I love classic movies ... I run the gamut." In the second clip he notes the similarities (and differences) between himself and Clark: "Well we both have green eyes. We're both 6'3". We both have dark hair. But he has some abilities that I don't have, though I do have a few of my own that he doesn't have."

Thanks to John for the tip!

Season Four Out on Tuesday!

Sun September 11th 2005 @ 11:21PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

As if my friends in the US could forget, Smallville's fourth season comes out on region one DVD this Tuesday, September 13th. You can of course still pre-order the box set for the next few hours from Amazon.com - that's assuming you want to!

In the run-up to the release, Warner Bros. has also updated its Smallville DVD page with clips and pictures from the season four set. Thanks to Cindy for that link!

Now I'll just pout over the lack of a gag reel.

Carpenter's Take on The Fog

Sat September 10th 2005 @ 11:08PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The remake of The Fog that we're about to see (October 14th! Tom Welling's first starring movie role! No, I'm not giving myself an aneurysm ...) would have been quite different had John Carpenter once again taken the reins himself - at least that's the case according to Fangoria:

"I’d have put it in a big city, and make it an urban film. There’d be a lot of stuff going on in the ghettos. But that would be a whole different movie, and it would also be much more serious."

That's no fun, Tom would have never got the chance to play with a boat.

New Smallville Trailer

Fri September 9th 2005 @ 9:25PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Thanks to Mrsckent from TomWelling.org's official message board over on Fan Forum (Please pay a visit if you haven't already!), I have a video clip of the newest trailer for season five of Smallville.

The trailer is "interesting", to say the least, but I'll let you make your own mind up on that: download the trailer. If you'd like to view screencaps from this and the other trailers, you'll be able to find those over at KryptonSite.

Is it September 29th yet?

Smallville Season Five Article

Wed September 7th 2005 @ 6:10PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Now Playing is on a roll. A few days ago I posted their two-part article about The Fog, and now they have the first part of an interview with Al Gough about Smallville's fifth season. Ever the comedian, Al seemingly "thought [the Fortress of Solitude] would be a tropical paradise on the beach! Really hot Kryptonian barmaids will be serving Clark umbrella drinks."

Clark is never quite that lucky. But hey, he always has Lana so things could be worse. Debatably.

It's a really good article which, as you might expect, contains quite a few spoilers. However most of them are already pretty well known, I think, so it should be safe enough for most people to check out.

Full Leather Jacket

Wed September 7th 2005 @ 3:39AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

It's not quite Kubrick, but it's still nice ... Just Jared has a picture of Tom from his shoot with Tony Duran in late 2002, and Tom's wearing (you guessed it) a very nice leather jacket. Or maybe it's pleather. Either way this is a really nice picture.

I'm sure many of you will have seen this picture before, but probably not quite this big or shiny.

'Arrival' Stills

Tue September 6th 2005 @ 9:03PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

In addition to the stills that were posted a few days ago, KryptonSite has just posted another still from Smallville's fifth season premiere, 'Arrival'. The picture shows Clark holding onto a crystal shard, seemingly in the midst of yet another "blast" from his dear ol' daddy, Jor-El.

Season five of Smallville begins on Thursday, September 29th, at 8:00pm. So it's just over three weeks away; the hiatus has flown by far too quickly for this worn out webmaster!

Small Fog Mention

Tue September 6th 2005 @ 5:23PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Normally I probably wouldn't mention this, but it's been slow the last few days, newswise - at times like these I'll mention almost anything!

Today's online edition of Ohio's Akron Beacon Journal features an article about upcoming movies, and The Fog receives a brief mention. I say I normally wouldn't mention this because articles such as this one have been almost overflowing the web recently. So why post the link to this one? I think it has something to do with the article containing the line, "Superhunk and TV's Clark Kent, Tom Welling, stars in this remake of the John Carpenter horror flick from the 1980s." None of the other articles referred to him as anything other than plain old "Tom Welling." So this one wins.

You do need to register to view articles from the Beacon Journal, but it's usually worthwhile to do so.

News and Images for Circling Serita

Sat September 3rd 2005 @ 2:26PM - James - Mark Welling - 0 Comments

Mark's movie, Circling Serita wrapped filming on July 28th, and the movie's website now contains a pretty huge image gallery. It might take a while to download all of the images, but I think it's worth the wait!

If you'd like to find out more information about Circling Serita, you should look through the June 2005 and July 2005 news archives.

Rupert Wainwright Talks Scares and Fog

Fri September 2nd 2005 @ 1:36PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

It looks like Now Playing Magazine is a little behind, as they've only just gotten around to writing-up the appearance by Rupert Wainwright and Maggie Grace at Comic-Con back in July - but I have to say, I think it's the most in-depth write-up that I've seen. So perhaps it was worth the wait!

Parts one and two of the article can be viewed here and here, respectively.

Speaking about some of the differences between the new movie and the original, Rupert once again acknowledged that the movie will (barring any last minute changes) be PG-13:

"A lot of the scares and thrills in the original come from you just being frightened of some guy with a big fish hook. Obviously these days [in] a PG-13 movie you just can’t do that unless you’re going with a really hard R."

Boo. I know that some of the people reading this will be happy that it's going to be PG-13, but I make no apologies for my love of real, scary-as-anything horror. Not that horror movies ever really scare me. Ketchup and latex are terrifying! However a later comment does make me feel a little bit better: "For a PG-13 movie it’s as gory as it can get. Is it scarier than [the original]? Yes."

Don't mind me, I'm just throwing my self a little "this movie will be gory and scary" party. With some of that ketchup. Latex gives me a rash.

As a fellow Brit (with an equally big mouth), I'm happy to say that Rupert had the guts to mention that when it comes to remakes, "For the most part, Hollywood is just kind of lazy."

Tom Speaks to WB58

Thu September 1st 2005 @ 9:58AM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

The website of Sacramento's WB58 station has five short clips of Tom talking about everything from season five of Smallville, to what he likes to do on his vacation. The interviews were recorded at the Television Critics Association tour six weeks ago, and they do contain spoilers, so if you don't want to know what's going to happen on the show this year ... don't watch! Really, back away from the links if you're spoilerphobic!

On the other hand, if you do want to bite the bullet and watch them you should go here; you need to click on the pictures, and the videos then open in a new window. They're in Windows Media Player 9 format, so if you have a problem please go bug Bill Gates! If you do have any trouble with viewing those clips, you can also download a lower resolution copy right here. All five clips have been joined together into one video, and it's in my usual Quicktime format. Problems with viewing this one can go to Steve Jobs ...

The best quote from these clips (in my opinion, at any rate) came on the subject of Tom's other projects, and the opportunities that Smallville has given him:

"This summer I just wrapped up two films, and I enjoy that medium; I really love being on the set of a feature. But, you know, there are a lot of opportunities that this show has opened up for me. I'll be directing an episode this year so we'll see how that goes, and yeah, episode 19 - unless they take it away from me, but we'll see. I'll have to be a good boy!"

Thanks to Jack over on the KryptonSite Message Forums for finding the clips, and to phoephoe for passing the link along to me!

Full Fog Site Launches!

Thu September 1st 2005 @ 2:53AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

The full official website for The Fog is finally online at Sony Pictures! On entering the site you're taken to the Antonio Bay Visitor Center, and from there you take a virtual tour.

Pay a visit to the Lighthouse and you'll find Wallpaper, AIM Icons, and a Screen Saver. Take a Boat Tour and you can read the synopsis, view images, watch the trailer, and soon you'll be able to read about the cast and crew. Step into the Town Hall and you can read about the Dark Horse graphic novel, get news about the movie, learn about its history, and shortly there will be a Q&A with director Rupert Wainwright too.

"Every town has its secrets. Antonio Bay has its nightmares!"

I'm liking this. A lot.

Websites are also beginning to run banners for the movie. The first, titled "Fear", contains the tagline: "Nothing comes close to the fear that will surround you when the fog rolls in!" The second, titled "Sins", contains the tagline: "When the fog rolls in the town of Antonio Bay will pay for its sins!"

This is way too much for me to take in at 4:00am in the morning!
