On and On Rolls The Fog

Wed August 31st 2005 @ 3:59PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Fog, Fog, Fog, Frog, Fog. It's all about The Fog again today. And by the bye, if you say "fog" five times fast, as I just did, there's a good chance that you'll accidentally say "frog" at least once. As I just did.

Anyway, this month's issue of Dreamwatch (US edition, issue #11, September 2005, etc. and so on) also features an article about The Fog, entitled "Fog Bound". I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who makes bad puns! The article itself is nothing new, but it does contain a new movie still of Tom with Maggie Grace, so it's well worth picking up a copy.

Many thanks to Cindy for the info and the scan!

More Fog From Fangoria

Wed August 31st 2005 @ 3:13PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Just like the current issue, the next issue of Fangoria magazine will also feature an article about The Fog ... but this time there's a slight difference: the movie is featured on the cover!

That should have been an exciting development, however the picture that's used on the cover has left me a little underwhelmed. The teaser trailer offered up intrigue and atmosphere; the ghostly apparition whose face graces this cover, on the other hand, has made me burst out laughing. Gone are the mysterious, shadowy figures, cloaked in long robes and an eerie mist from John Carpenter's original. Now we get CGI zombies that look like they're straight out of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Oi.

Ah well, look out for that issue (#247) from September 20th.

First Trailer for Season 5!

Tue August 30th 2005 @ 3:37PM - James - Tom Welling - 5 Comments

With a spot of help from yours truly, Craig over at KryptonSite now has a link to download the first trailer for Smallville's fifth season, direct from the WB! Not to be outdone, I've also got a lower resolution copy that won't bust my bandwidth - if you can't download the WB's file for any reason, try this one.

Thursday September 29th; The boy becomes a man; A friend becomes the foe; And this season becomes; Legend!

Margot and Erica Also On Tom

Tue August 30th 2005 @ 2:29PM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

Hey, if the joke gets a response once ... you should probably not use it again and make it fall deader than a dead thing. But I'm not smart.

Margot Kidder and Erica Durance were also at the Canadian National Comic Book Expo a few days ago, and just like James Marsters, Erica in particular had a few nice things to say about Tom according to a transcript at Comics Continuum.

When asked what made both Christopher Reeve and Tom so perfect for the role of Superman, Erica replied that:

"They have the classic American dream. The great structured face, very clean. And that kind of goes into the psyche of being a good person, for some reason. People think if they have a perfect face and really bright blue eyes, their bent is to be the good person and do good things and be heroic. And of course there's size, obviously. Both of them are big guys and that helps."

Later, when asked how it is working with Tom on the show, Erica related a story (it's a story that she's told before, but it's one that I like so I'm going to mention it again ...) about her first day on set:

"The first time I met with Tom he came in early to start the season to read scenes with me and the producer. Right then and there I thought we've got somebody who is not buying into the fame surrounding him. He wants people to feel comfortable and he's like a Southern gentlemen, which is something I think his character brings to that Clark Kent thing. Very down to earth, very fun, very nice person."

"And I think he does a very good job. It's hard, because you get used to who they are as a person when you talk to them, then you go on set and see the transformation and that kind of blank stare that he has, like the bumbling thing [Margot] said that Chris did."

I like Erica. I do. But then I am pretty easy. The article is a really interesting read, and you should look for part two of the transcript later today - hopefully there'll be more about Tom's googly eyes! Fine, so she said blank stare. I prefer the term googly eyes. And it doesn't mean his eyes have a search engine in them; that's Google.

Picture Of Tom With Taylor Lautner

Sun August 28th 2005 @ 5:22PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

The official website of actor Taylor Lautner (he's playing Eliot Murtaugh in Cheaper By The Dozen 2, in case the name means nothing to you at the moment) has recently posted some photographs of Taylor with his Cheaper castmates. And by the title of this post I'm sure you can guess that Tom is in there - it's only one picture, but it's a goodie!

So what are you waiting for? Go take a look at Tom showing off his tanned chops in a sky blue polo neck T-shirt.

James Marsters on Tom

Sat August 27th 2005 @ 11:37AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Well not literally on him, but ... well, you know. It's late and I shouldn't write when my brain is running on fumes.

In an article about James' appearance at the Canadian National Comic Book Expo, at Whedon.info, James apparently had some nice things to say about Tom:

"Tom is really cool. If any of you have crushes on Tom Welling, go right ahead. He’s more intelligent than you might think. We don’t want to believe that really beautiful people have intelligence, but sometimes, they do. Tom’s one of them. He’s very funny, very intelligent."

Right, Tom's intelligent. I knew that, I really did, and it is one of the reasons that I've remained a fan for over three years when all other little fannish pursuits have fizzled out after about two hours; however I'd be lying if I said the beauty hurts! Well, aside from the blindingly bright smile. That thing could cause retinal damage, and retinal damage does hurt! So ... err ... the beauty does hurt. And now I'll shut up.

Update to TheWB.com's Smallville Synopsis

Fri August 26th 2005 @ 11:37AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Oh dear. And there I was, looking forward so much to the upcoming season of Smallville ... all right, fine, fine (No, I'm not talking about James Marsters' character!), I still am. However some of the information in the WB's new season five synopsis (Beware of spoilers! And these are the kind that could really wreck your enjoyment. Seriously. Wreckage a go-go.) has just made me throw up a little.

Still, KryptonSite has more than made up for that by posting a magazine scan of the first still from 'Arrival'. Poor Clarkiepooh looks cold ... which is strange, because Clark isn't supposed to feel the cold. Did Tom forget his thermals?

InStyle Scans

Thu August 25th 2005 @ 5:00PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

I remember it like it was yesterday. Which it wasn't, but one week ago is close enough. I said, and I quote: "Nope, I can’t think of anything else short of posting scans." I also said I wouldn't do that, because me no likey being sued. Of course I always reserve the right to change my mind - live life on the edge!

So here are scans from this month's issue of InStyle, courtesy of Serene. Thanks 'Rene!

I didn't bother making them very big as we've already seen the pictures and the article was posted a few days ago. Besides that, up until ten minutes ago I was still weighing up whether to post scans at all; despite my outburst about living on the edge, I'm a perpetual wimp.

E!'s Coming Attractions Features The Fog

Thu August 25th 2005 @ 2:01PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

As nice as it is to see a copy of a movie's trailer online, there's nothing quite like the added "something" that comes with seeing it in the cinema or, to a lesser extent, on the television. The current edition of E!'s movie trailer show, Coming Attractions, apparently brought that "something" one step closer this morning, by featuring the trailer for Tom's upcoming movie, The Fog.

The show will be repeated later today, and more than likely a few more times after that, so check your TV listings.

TV Critics Go Teen Hollywood

Tue August 23rd 2005 @ 4:31PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

It's been over a month since Tom popped up at the TV Critics Association press tour, and still the articles about it are flowing in a steady stream. One such article can be found at Teen Hollywood - it's pretty much a word-for-word transcript, much like the one I already posted a few weeks ago; though the exact wording seems to differ somewhat, which is odd when you consider that both were taken from the same source material. Go figure.

So once again there's nothing new, but it's still nice to read an article where the author refers to Tom as "mega-cute," and invites us to "picture Tom all corporate in a very flattering suit."

Tom Contributes to PEACE

Sun August 21st 2005 @ 12:36AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment

I've just received word that Tom, along with Smallville castmates Jensen Ackles, Erica Durance, John Glover, Kristin Kreuk, Allison Mack, Annette O'Toole, Michael Rosenbaum, and John Schneider (I could have saved myself some effort and just said "along with the entire main cast of Smallville."), has donated to a charity auction for the PEACE (Protect Educate Aid Children Everywhere) Fund.

The fund, founded by actor Adrian Paul (of Highlander fame) in 1998, is currently working to aid children affected by the Thailand tsunami in December 2004. It's a great and worthwhile cause, and I would like to take this time to thank all of the contributors for their efforts. Previous auctions have raised over $45,000, so let's hope this one is just as successful!

I don't have any further information at the moment about the item(s) that were donated, or about when the auctions will be taking place; however I will let everyone know as soon as I find out!

Many thanks go out to John for letting me know about this upcoming event.

The Fog & Smallville in Sci Fi Magazine

Fri August 19th 2005 @ 1:30AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Along with an article about Smallville's fifth season (quotes from that can be found on KryptonSite), the October 2005 issue of Sci Fi Magazine also features an article about The Fog, entitled "Hit or Mist?" Tom's everywhere these days!

Unfortunately the article doesn't include many quotes from Tom - aside from his old chestnut about how they've "taken the ages of the original characters and divided them in two." However it's still a really good read. John Carpenter in particular has some insightful comments about why a remake was, in this case, not such a bad idea:

Although Carpenter admits that the original Fog was not a favorite among his own films, he still feels the concept is a strong one that deserves a chance to be reimagined for today's audience. "It's a pretty fireproof idea in terms of what happens," he says. "It's an old ghost story. The idea in this case is to freshen it up. There's a cultural mindset that says anything that's more than 15 years or older is old-fashioned and old-school. But we've sort of heard of it. The audience has maybe heard of it. So the thing to do is to take it out and prop it up, put a fresh coat of paint on it. See if it goes."

Big thanks to Cindy for letting me know and to Craig for passing along the quotes.

And ... More InStyle

Thu August 18th 2005 @ 3:15AM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

Thanks to Sacha, I now have the brief article snippets about Tom from the latest InStyle magazine. There really can't be anything more to say about it after this, as I already did the "which pictures do we get this time?" schtick a few hours ago. I've done the pictures, I've done the article ... nope, I can't think of anything else short of posting scans. And that sometimes gets me into trouble with lawyers so I'd better not risk it.

So first off we have ...

Rising Male Star - Tom Welling & Johnny Knoxville

"It was a virtual tie between these two, with Knoxville (The Dukes of Hazzard) getting just three more votes than Welling (Smallville). Ah, the eternal question: the good guy or the bad boy? Seems this will remain a split decision."

And then we follow that up with ...

TV Drama Actor - Tom Welling & Patrick Dempsey

"Welling of Smallville fame nabs his second poll of honor, one he shares with Dempsey of Grey's Anatomy. A red cape, or stethoscope and scrubs? You're keen on both."

I think we should put a red cape and a stethoscope and scrubs on Tom - does anyone from Australia and elsewhere remember The Flying Doctors?

InStyle Update

Wed August 17th 2005 @ 9:03PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Alongside Tom's winning categories in the new issue of InStyle (mentioned earlier today) were two small images; one of the images is from the newly-released shoot with Michael Tammaro from a couple of years back, and the other is a generic Smallville promo shot. So there's nothing really new, but it is, nonetheless, exciting to see Tom winning awards from the readers of such a prestigious magazine.

And you thought it was exciting when he won "biggest swimming pool eyes" from J-14 ... all right, that didn't happen. But it made my point about the importance of being mentioned by something other than a teen magazine. This means that Tom is finally growing up!

Fangoria On The Fog

Wed August 17th 2005 @ 6:25AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The current issue of Fangoria magazine (issue #246) features a new article about Tom's upcoming movie, The Fog. Unlike other recent articles about the movie, this one contains some really compelling new quotes from the movie's director, Rupert Wainwright. Speaking about how quickly the movie came together, Rupert noted that:

"This project is going to go from green light, without a single page having been written, to the theaters in 10½ months."

The article also mentions that Antonio Island, where the movie is set, is supposedly off the coast of Oregon; those familiar with the original will probably remember that it was set in the small coastal town of Antonio Bay, rather than on an island - this is one of the little amendments intended to make the movie more intriguing and exciting. Or something to that effect.

Fangoria's article is well worth a read if you can pick up a copy of the magazine yourself. Thanks go out to Cindy for passing along the quote!

Tom is InStyle

Wed August 17th 2005 @ 6:06AM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

The September issue of InStyle, which is just hitting stores now with Jennifer Garner on the cover, features the results of the magazine's annual favorite actors poll, and excitingly, Tom has won in two categories - well, I say won. There are apparently two winners per category, but still. This is great news! The categories that Tom won in are Favorite TV Actor, and Rising Male Star.

And apart from that I know absolutely nothing else about this. If anyone who has bought the magazine can pass along more information, please let me know.

Newsarama Interview With Scott Allie

Tue August 16th 2005 @ 5:39PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Newsarama recently caught up with Scott Allie, the author of The Fog's upcoming graphic novel. The novel is scheduled to be released on October 5th, and can currently be pre-ordered from Amazon.

So, on to the interview. The novel is, as many of you are probably already aware, a prequel to the movie; it's intended to add to the backstory, fleshing it out in a way that wouldn't be possible in a two-hour movie. (I'm only guessing, it could be 90-minutes or even three hours for all I know!)

When asked how closely the remake follows the script of the John Carpenter original, Scott replied:

"The script is incredibly close in ways ... You’ll have a scene which serves a totally new purpose in this film, yet there are memorable lines that survived from the original, and scene structures that are the same, despite having different outcomes or plot purposes."

And of course, as a prequel set some 150 years ago, there is no mention in the story of Nick Castle, Elizabeth Williams, or any of the other living characters in the movie; so why on Earth would a person to consider buying it? Honestly, I'm not sure that I will. But this is the hard-sell courtesy, once again, of Scott:

"The biggest challenge was to let the events of the film remain totally singular, yet create a back-story that was essential to the movie story."

So thar ye have it, mateys! Hmm, I'm never going to try to be a olde worlde sailor again, it hurts my throat and damages listeners' ears. These are, as you'd expect, only brief snippets of the full interview. So visit Newsarama if you'd like to read the rest.

Thanks to Rakumon for the tip!

Undeclared Hits Stores Today

Tue August 16th 2005 @ 4:32PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Undeclared, the Judd Apatow-penned comedy that featured Tom in one of his smallest roles to date, is scheduled to hit Region 1 DVD today. Granted, 10 seconds of Tom on a DVD Box Set that costs anything from $34.99 to almost $50, is not a whole lot.

Still, for anyone desperate to get their Tom-fix, now's the chance to see this pretty rare appearance in the kind of quality we've so far only dreamt of.

Box Office Prophets Intrigued by The Fog

Mon August 15th 2005 @ 8:22PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

In his latest "Trailer Hitch" column at Box Office Prophets, Zach Kolkin has a glowing review of The Fog's trailer. Proving that I wasn't alone in feeling that the trailer exuded a heavy, chilling atmosphere in the vein of John Carpenter's original, Zach had this to say:

"I'm not usually a very big fan of horror movies, but this preview casts the picture as an atmospheric horror film, rather than a more typical slasher film filled with cheap scares. It would seem that the film's producers are relying on the draw of their cast, as well as this genuinely creepy trailer, to lead the movie to financial success, rather than appealing to those who might have enjoyed the original."

Head on over to read the rest; The Fog's segment is half-way down the page. And just as excitingly, the site has also listed The Fog as its Movie of the Day.

New Picture of Tom from The Fog

Mon August 15th 2005 @ 6:16PM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

Don't you just hate having to sleep? I was awake all night waiting to see if Tom was at the Teen Choice Awards. Luckily I woke up to a pleasant surprise. One of the websites that I visit on a daily basis is JoBlo, and today, in their Sony/Columbia movie preview, they've released another still of Tom in The Fog.

This one may just be my favourite picture from the movie yet.

No Teen Choice for Tom

Mon August 15th 2005 @ 7:15AM - James - Tom Welling - 7 Comments

I think I'm going to go back to my usual doom-and-gloom naysaying; every time I hope that Tom won't do something, he almost invariably does - how else do I explain him making a sequel to Cheaper By The Dozen? But then, on the rare occasions when I hope he will do something, it doesn't happen! This is highly disconcerting.

I'm a jinx, that's what I am. In any case, if you hadn't already guessed, at this point it looks like Tom wasn't at the Teen Choice Awards this year; there's a slim chance that he was there and somehow avoided the cameras, but I doubt it! And why would he be, the only award he was nominated for ("Choice TV Actor - Drama/Action Adventure") went to Smallville alumnus Adam Brody, for his performance on The O.C. Still, at least Smallville seems to be a good springboard towards greater success! Let's just hope it stays that way.

Cheaper By The Dozens?

Sun August 14th 2005 @ 6:57PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

I was recently sent information suggesting that Cheaper By The Dozen 2 may only be a temporary title, and that the film will be released in cinemas as Cheaper By The Dozens. I admit it, I'm a notorious skeptic when it comes to things like this; particularly when I can't find anything to add weight and validity to the information I've been given. However it seems that the extra weight I was looking for is very much in existence.

The website for the original movie was cheaperbythedozenmovie.com, so it stood to reason that the website for the sequel would be similar; type in cheaperbythedozen2movie.com, and you get an "Address Not Found" error - but type in cheaperbythedozensmovie.com and you're redirected to Fox Movies!

Curiouser and curiouser - coincidence? Hmmm ...

Teen Choice Weekend

Sun August 14th 2005 @ 5:09AM - James - Tom Welling - 7 Comments

I'll preface this with two points:

  1. I have no idea whether Tom will be at the Teen Choice Awards this year; I'll probably know later today, because oddly enough, that's when they're being held. Sometimes there's logic in logic ...
  2. Did Hilary Duff do something to her teeth? She looks different and I can't quite place it.
I'm always of two minds whenever Tom appears somewhere; on the one hand I'm just as excited as everyone else to see the new pictures and read the new quotes; on the other hand I wish he'd never do anything ever again, because that way I might finally get the chance to take a break! I almost wonder if Tom could put himself into suspended animation for me ... and as an added bonus, Tom would finally make a good model as he'd no longer have any trouble keeping still! Though if he modelled again that would nix my break from reporting news; I can't win.

Still, I'm feeling selfless right now (it'll probably pass) so I'll keep my eyes crossed for Tom to be at the awards show tonight; I can't type with my fingers crossed, so the eyes won out.

Trailers, Trailers, Everywhere

Sat August 13th 2005 @ 3:19AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Considering how many sites you can already download The Fog's trailer from, this is probably barely worth mentioning. Still, I'll mention it anyway because I'm funny like that. The trailer is now – finally – available at Apple Trailers. And it even has its own sub-site, which is really dull and reminds me of a graveyard. Although that's deliberate.

Fog Falls on EW

Fri August 12th 2005 @ 11:40PM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

This week's edition of Entertainment Weekly features the magazine's "Fall Movie Preview", listing 70 of the movies that will be released over the coming months; and unsurprisingly The Fog is one of them. Though with the number of films on the list, I'm more inclined to wonder which weren't included!

"So what's the big difference between ABC's Lost, where malevolent forces run rampant on a spooky beach, and director Rupert Wainwright's low-budget remake of John Carpenter's 1980 frightfest, where, uh, malevolent forces run rampant on a spooky beach? 'Shower scenes with Tom Welling,' jokes Maggie Grace, who stars in both."

Well hey, if Tom ever wants to make a guest appearance on Lost I won't ... um, actually I probably still won't watch it. I'm sorry, I tried to watch Lost, I honestly and truly did. Castaways on a desert island just don't work for me any more. Scratch that, I may be persuaded to watch if it's revealed that Tom was really the Polar Bear ...

Anyway, the full article can be read over on EW.com. Nothing new, but still good fun.

Oopsies!

Fri August 12th 2005 @ 3:20PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

It looks like IGN may have made a faux pas in their Fog commentary after all; the line in their article about Nick and Elizabeth being a married couple has now been removed.

I still stand by my belief that there will be some sort of twist in their storyline (I think Rupert Wainwright himself may have said as much on at least one occasion), though I still don't have the foggiest idea (Heh, foggiest. This is my brain amped up on sugar.) what it is. Allow me to ponder the two options: either IGN was wrong, and chose to make a hasty retraction; or the slightly more fun option is that they were right, and have been forced to make a hasty retraction.

Thanks to Cindy for passing along the info!

Eyes, Look Your Last

Thu August 11th 2005 @ 11:31PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Hands up if you can name the Shakespeare play that I took that introduction from?! Here's a hint: it starred Leonardo DiCaprio. Who was, by the bye, once considered pretty. Until Tom Welling showed up and outprettied everyone alive or dead. Still, you can't blame Leo for trying.

Anyway, enough of Shakespeare for the terminally obtuse.

According to a poster on the KryptonSite Message Forums, the September issue of CosmoGirl features a small write-up about Smallville's Season Four DVD set. The boxed set is released in the United States on September 13th, and CosmoGirl has chosen it as one of the month's Hot New DVD's. Unsurprisingly, Tom is a big part of the reason why the magazine's editors feel that way:

"Dare yourself to take your eyes off Tom Welling. Then fail miserably!"

I remember when people used to say the same about Rom ... er, Leonardo. One day I'll get it right.

Fog Relationship Conundrum

Thu August 11th 2005 @ 1:54AM - James - Tom Welling - 3 Comments

In an article about upcoming horror movies on IGN, The Fog is mentioned very briefly - and interestingly, the snippet describes Nick and Elizabeth as "a young married couple". Hmmm ...

I've known for a while that there's supposedly a fairly big twist in the Nick and Elizabeth plotline, but exactly what that twist is has so far been kept a well-guarded secret. Maybe the "married couple" line is a typo; then again, maybe it isn't. I guess we'll find out on October 14th.

Cheaper By The Dozen 2 UK Release Date

Wed August 10th 2005 @ 7:28PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The website for 20th Century Fox UK now has Cheaper By The Dozen 2's UK release date listed as February 3rd, 2006 - that's over two weeks before we even get to see the The Fog over here!

There's no information listed yet besides the release date, but I'll keep an eye out for anything that becomes available. And of course if you spot anything you think I should know about, please contact me!

2005 KryptonSite Awards

Wed August 10th 2005 @ 12:20PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

The KryptonSite Awards don't usually give us Tom Welling fans much cause to celebrate, as for the past three years they have been dominated by Michael Rosenbaum - but things change, as the saying goes.

Tom has won the "Best Lead Actor" category at the 2005 Awards, with 52% of the total votes; Michael, who came in second place, received over one thousand fewer votes! Should I gloat a little? It's been three long years of waiting, and Tom's performances this year (particularly in episodes such as 'Transference') were a high-spot in an otherwise lackluster season. So I do feel the right to gloat just a teensy bit ... but I'm above it. I think.

I think Craig said it best: "Tom has certainly grown as an actor in the show's four years, and it seems that Season Four was a good chance to show off his hard work."

My warmest congratulations go out to Tom: unlike other awards, this one shows what the fans think, not what some stuffy guy in an office thinks! (Although some of the voters may have an office. And they may even be stuffy. If so, mea culpa and please don't hurt me.)

Of course the "Best Lead Actor" category wasn't the only category, so head over to KryptonSite to read the entire list of results.

The Fog World Premiere Date

Tue August 9th 2005 @ 9:54AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

According to Seeing Stars, The Fog's world premiere is currently scheduled for Monday, October 10th, at Mann's Village Theater in Los Angeles. The time has not yet been confirmed; however it's expected to be around 5:00-6:30pm. This date is still subject to change, but right now it's good enough for me!

And of course I expect Tom will be there. No prizes for me on that one.

Tom Is "Most Likely To ... "

Sun August 7th 2005 @ 10:08AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

In its online Young Hollywood 2005 segment, Teen People has listed a familiar face ... yup, you got it: Tom Welling. In Hollywood High's virtual class of 2005 (Me thinks it's an older article that has been recycled, so I must have missed it the first time around. My bad.), Tom was named "Most Likely to Appear on a Box of Wheaties." See now, that would probably convince me to eat cereal ...

"Superman has really strong bones. (Not to mention startlingly white teeth and gorgeous green eyes.) Simply put, no one says 'All-American' quite like Tom."

They really know how to word things over there. And not that I want him to harm himself or anything, but after the "strong bones" comment it would be really ironic if Tom tripped and broke something ... never tempt fate! Teen People's annual Young Hollywood issue should be on sale now.

Synopsis of Cheaper By The Dozen 2

Fri August 5th 2005 @ 3:01PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

Fox Movies has just been updated with a synopsis for Cheaper By The Dozen 2, and in addition to that the site confirms the movie's release date as December 21st. So I'm definitely going to have a busy Christmas again! Plus Tom has fourth listing for this movie, behind Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, and Hilary Duff. Neato!

Tom Baker (Steve Martin) and wife Kate (Bonnie Hunt), hoping to bring their family together for a memorable summer vacation, take their 12 offspring to the rustic Lake Winnetka. But their retreat soon becomes cutthroat when they enter into a competition with the over-achieving members of a large family headed by Tom's long-time rival, Jimmy Murtaugh (Eugene Levy).

I'm going into this movie with low expectations: that way it will be easier to leave me pleasantly surprised.

Transcript of Tom at the TCA

Fri August 5th 2005 @ 9:56AM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

Thanks to Craig, who was kind enough to transcribe his tape of the WB's TV Critics Association presentation for me, I have the entire text of Tom's short announcement. Craig tells me that Tom's charming and affable personality, as well as his endearing muddle with the teleprompter, made him a huge hit with the assembled critics.

If you'd like to share the transcript please don't repost it without asking first; I would of course prefer it if you could just link to TomWelling.org instead of reposting it, as the extra traffic never hurts! Anyway, here's the transcript of Tom's TCA presentation.

Thanks, Craig!

Tom-Spotting

Thu August 4th 2005 @ 3:49PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments

It's a slow news day today, so to fill up some time here's one of my little editorial rambles - I'm such a pathetic little soul that the ability to ramble makes me feel very important; or perhaps that should be self-important.

So what is Tom likely to be up to over the next few weeks that we should watch out for?

There's the obvious filming of Smallville, but honestly, that's about it as far as what I'm certain about. Some editorial ramble, huh? However the 2005 Teen Choice Awards will be recorded on Sunday, August 14th, at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, and there's always the possibility that Tom will attend. This year's award show will be hosted by Tom's Cheaper By The Dozen 2 co-star, Hilary Duff, and funnyman Rob Schneider ... whose roles I tend to forget. I think there was one about a Gigolo.

Coincidentally today is one of the last days to place your vote for Tom at the awards, so if you haven't already done your duty please get over there! That last part was yelled with love.

Release Date for Cheaper By The Dozen 2

Tue August 2nd 2005 @ 8:45PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

According to the most recent scheduling update by Box Office Mojo, Cheaper By The Dozen 2 is scheduled for a wide cinema release in the United States on Wednesday, December 21st, 2005 - if accurate that's much sooner than I had anticipated, especially when you consider that there will be barely three months for post-production! I was expecting to have a good six months or more to sit around twiddling my thumbs.

In many respects I'm not hugely surprised by the release date (after all, Cheaper By The Dozen was hugely successful with its Christmas release), and yet at the same time I really wanted a little more time to prepare myself for the media onslaught that is bound to accompany the movie. Christmas is always jolly around these parts ...

Another Update to The Fog's Official Site

Tue August 2nd 2005 @ 3:11AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

It seems that I'm getting fairly good with the guesswork, huh? After the recent addition of The Fog's trailer to Sony Pictures Previews, I had assumed that it would only be a matter of time before the movie's official site would be updated - and only two days later, exactly that has happened.

The site now contains links to view the five stills that have so far been released (I'm guessing most people have already seen them), as well as a link to view the trailer. It's not a major update, but it's still exciting to know that things are really moving forward.

Tom on E! News

Mon August 1st 2005 @ 8:31PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments

This past weekend's edition of E! News Weekend featured a round-up of the previous week's news from the Television Critics Association Press Tour, and included on the show was a short snippet from Tom's interview with Kristin Veitch - we've already read what he said, but seeing it adds a whole new dimension!

E! International doesn't air E! News Weekend in the UK until monday evening, so I've only just managed to catch the show myself; unfortunately I found out about it too late to give the heads' up, but hopefully this short video clip will make up for that at least a little bit.

Many thanks go out to Cindy for letting me know to watch out for this!

Tom's All In A Muddle

Mon August 1st 2005 @ 1:58AM - James - Tom Welling - 4 Comments

In yet another incredibly endearing (At least I think it's endearing. Though I suspect the author of the article intended it to be derisive.) anecdote from the TCA Press Tour a couple of weeks ago, Jonathan Storm of the Philadelphia Inquirer recounted Tom's moment of befuddlement on-stage:

"Everybody knows Superboy can see in the dark. But not Tom Welling, the guy who plays him on the WB's Smallville."

"The handsome Welling introduced the stars of a new show, the scary Supernatural. Lights in the Beverly Hilton's International Ballroom dimmed."

"'Are they behind me?' the muddled Welling moaned forlornly in the dark."

You need to register to read the full article, but I think it's well worth the small amount of effort required. And if I may, I would like to pass along a note to the WB: give your stars longer to rehearse what they're supposed to be doing! I realise that Tom probably only flew in an hour or two before the show, but still. It's no excuse.
