Newly-Discovered Modelling Image
Sat April 30th 2005 @ 8:29PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Carol (better known to Smallville message board regulars as whiteflag) has been kind enough to share with me a very exciting discovery that she made a few days ago in an old issue of the Spanish magazine Ragazza. In an issue of the magazine from 2002, she found a "new" image of Tom from his years as a model in Europe; the image was part of an article about dating tips – as far as I could tell, given my lack of Spanish-language skills – with Tom yet again exhibiting his bedroom eyes to great effect ...
Although published in 2002, the image appears to have been taken in late 1998 or early 1999 during one of Tom's first trips to Europe for the Louisa Models agency.
Will Tom Appear in Cheaper By The Dozen 2?
Fri April 29th 2005 @ 1:45PM - James - Tom Welling - 2 Comments
Your guess on that is as good as mine - and for some your guess may even be better than mine! However according to U at DailyNews.com, the movie is scheduled to begin filming in Toronto, Canada, in mid-June, which would give Tom the opportunity to reprise his role as Charlie if he wishes to do so.
The first Cheaper By The Dozen movie – in production from the beginning of April through to the beginning of June in 2003 – had a shooting schedule of approximately 45 days; Tom, however, was only present for about four weeks of the shoot. With a mid-June start for the filming of the sequel, and a mid-July start for the filming of Smallville's fifth season, Tom would have ample time to make an appearance.
Of course this year will have been a very busy one for Tom if he adds Cheaper By The Dozen 2 to his already-packed schedule: four months on Smallville; two months filming The Fog; one month on Cheaper By The Dozen 2; five more months recording Smallville ... Add onto that the necessary promotional press tours, and I'm sure Tom would be better served by taking a month off!
Just in case, here's the link so that you can read the article yourself; Tom is only mentioned briefly, but it's better than nothing.
Video of Tom's Message at Jules Verne Festival
Wed April 27th 2005 @ 4:09PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
It took a little while to surface, however the short message Tom gave a few weeks ago at the Jules Verne Festival in France has finally become available. The M6 Channel, which airs Smallville in France, ran a special short program at the weekend featuring clips from the Festival, and Tom's message of thanks was included; clocking in at just over ten seconds, Tom had this to say:
The quote is paraphrased to the best of my ability, as his voice was dubbed over in French and it's difficult to pick out his exact words. Still, I think – and hope – that's fairly close. It's worth noting that the French dubbing doesn't match what Tom actually said, and I can only speculate on the reason for that."Hello, I'm Tom Welling and I play Clark Kent on Smallville. I'm here on the set of the show, and on behalf of the cast and crew I would like to say thank you; it's a huge honour to be recognised at the Jules Verne Festival. I hope you all enjoy season four."
And of course you'll want to see the video clip yourself, so who am I to disappoint: Tom's message to the audience at the Jules Verne Festival. As always the video in MOV format, so Quicktime Player is required to view it.
Special thanks go out to Arnaud at Nabbox.com for sharing the original video with me.
Media Coverage of Tom's Birthday
Wed April 27th 2005 @ 3:52PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
It seems that Tom is finally getting a little more widespread recognition; this year his birthday was mentioned in many of the more popular newspaper's and news website's, with the Internet Movie Database even featuring him on their front page. To get an idea of how prestigious that is, you have to take a look not only at the competition he was facing yesterday (Jet Li, to name just one) but also at the featured actor for today, April 27th: Jack Klugman.
That's not bad going for someone with only a handful of roles under their belt.
Speaking of Tom's birthday, if you didn't leave a message for Tom yesterday I'm afraid that you've now missed your chance for this year. All of the messages that were left have now been gathered up, and they will be mailed out to Tom within the next few days. Thanks to all 126 of you who were kind enough to give Tom your best wishes! Now just keep your fingers crossed for a reply.
Happy 28th Birthday Tom!
Tue April 26th 2005 @ 12:24AM - James - Tom Welling - 126 Comments
Here in the UK it's April 26th already, so it's time for me to wish Tom a very Happy 28th Birthday from myself and all of TomWelling.org's visitors and contributors. It seems like only yesterday that I was typing birthday wishes for his 25th, back in 2002 - if you've been in a coma it might really have been yesterday, but for me it's been three very long years....
Just as I have done for the last two years – unsuccessfully, I might add, as he hasn't replied yet – I'll be mailing out a birthday package to Tom a few days after his birthday. Included will be any messages that visitor's to the site have left for Tom. Who knows, maybe this will be the year that he replies; or perhaps not. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed nonetheless.
If you would like to leave Tom a message for his 28th birthday, just head down to this news story's already overflowing comments section. My thanks go out to those of you who have already left a message for Tom, and if you haven't please remember that there are now only 24-hours left to do so! The comments will be closed on April 27th, so get your messages in on time.
Oh, and one last thing before I shut up: be sure to also leave a message for Tom over at the KryptonSite Message Forums; there's a far, far better chance that Tom will read your message if you leave it in more than one place!
Smallville Season Finale and DVD Release Date
Wed April 13th 2005 @ 12:36AM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
KryptonSite is reporting that the season finale of Smallville's fourth season, 'Commencement,' will be an extended 90-minute episode rather than the usual 60 minutes; the question is, what will happen in the episode to warrant an extra half hour? KryptonSite's spoiler page (Don't click the link unless you want to be spoiled!) contains a few juicy details about the episode, but beyond that I guess we'll all just have to tune in on May 18th to find out!
Chalk up one feature-length Superman project that I'm actually looking forward to ...
In addition to that, KryptonSite has also reported that the fourth season will be released on Region 1 DVD on September 13th; there is, as yet, no information available about Tom's participation on this DVD. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll be a little more involved this time around.
A Horror by Any Other Name ...
Sun April 10th 2005 @ 6:46PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Is of course still a horror. In a new article for The Washington Post, Bridget Byrne discusses the recent influx of horror movies, and how their name is (at least in a philosophical sense) wholly unchanged. Remake is the word of the day, with studio's scrambling to get the most bang for their buck. Almost every recent title and plotline has been used before - including Columbia's upcoming remake of The Fog.
The actor's may change, the setting may be brought up-to-date, but the horror is still the same horror it has always been. And therein lies a problem for some; director John Landis feels "The truth is the modern horror movie is no different than the old horror movie, but it is damaged in the same way that most of the product is now by the corporate culture."
The article is a very interesting read – albeit only mentioning Tom and The Fog in passing – but don't take my word on that: read the article for yourself! Let's just hope The Fog continues the current trend of box office success for the horror genre.

Vote for Tom in TV Land's Top Ten
Sat April 9th 2005 @ 3:30AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment
Unsurprisingly, it looks like Tom is included in yet another poll; this time it's the TV Land channel's Top Ten Sexiest Stars: The Men. Voting is currently ongoing over at the TV Land website, with a list of nominees that includes George Clooney, Ashton Kutcher, and Tom's very own on-screen father, John Schneider. If you haven't done so already, now would be a great time to place your vote!
Will Tom get enough votes to wind up in the top ten? And if so, which position will he be in? I guess we'll have to wait until the premiere of TV Land's Top Ten Sexiest Stars: The Men, at 10:00pm on Wednesday, June 8th, to find out.
Picture from Set of The Fog
Thu April 7th 2005 @ 3:15PM - James - Tom Welling - 0 Comments
Hollywood North Report has done it once again, this time with one of the first pictures from the set of The Fog, which is currently filming around Bowen Island in Vancouver. Unfortunately it's not a picture of Tom, but it's still interesting nonetheless!
So I guess you want to know what it's a picture of? In that case you'll have to head over to read the HNR article. And who knows, maybe they'll have images of Tom soon enough!
Special thanks to Craig for passing along the link.
April Fool's: Tom to Sport New Look in The Fog?
Fri April 1st 2005 @ 9:41AM - James - Tom Welling - 1 Comment
I recently received yet more information about the production of The Fog; notably, the schedule is such that Tom may not have to do any double-duty on both the movie and Smallville. Tom's scenes should instead be filmed during the five or six weeks following Smallville's April 13th wrap date.
The reason for the scheduling is quite surprising: Tom will be getting a hair cut! It won't be anything crazy, but it will definitely be shorter than would be acceptable for his role as Clark. In addition the character will probably have a slight beard - probably very similar to the way Tom looked around the time of the Swordfish premiere in 2001.
Being the artsy fartsy person I am, I even did a mock-up manipulation of what Tom might look like - and I really like this particular look on him!
View the manip of Tom as Nick Castle.
